I apologize for not knowing anything about the man other than clicking the link and reading from his fans.. Really seemed like an amazingly talented and very exceptional human being

Stories from fans who he replied to and sent random cool stuff etc.. A Jim Croce? <<loved that dude..

Something inside me is praying it was not at his own hands unless some terminal illness was inescapable. May his soul live on forever in his fans, friends, and family.

his new album Purple Mountain dropped a month ago. I liked him because he wrote what he lived, like Layne Staley from Alice in Chains. he kept it real to the end.

his music might be an acquired taste but the lyrics are pretty heavy. he wrote a song about his mom, about being his mother's son which was really sweet and sad.

He was a great lyricist. "Send in the Clouds" is a great example, and it's also my favorite song of his.

He really carried the torch for the great dive bar balladeers like Waits and Zevon while also being so influential on alternative rock working alongside Malkmus as a Silver Jew.

Reports are that he committed suicide, and there's something so damn broken and human about an artist getting it together long enough to make that one last album before checking out. And of course he concicesely captured that poignant ambivalence in his lyrics better than I and most anyone could ever do:

Quote:
Well, a setback can be a setup
For a comeback if you don't let up
But this kind of hurtin' won't heal
And the end of all wanting
Is all I've been wanting
And that’s just the way that I feel
