Hi everyone!

I am planning a trip to Hawaii this fall with my wife and two kids (age 6 and 4)
Which island should I looking to visit for? I know some relatives and friends who been to Waikiki and Honolulu and they really liked them.

I've been to Hawaii once....back in 2006 and only went to Maui. I would love to go to there again but I am afraid isn't much to do for kids in Maui.

We are going for 5 days so it is a good idea to visit multiple islands on such a short period of time or just stay in one place?

Thank you for your suggestions and opinions!

Stick with one island. You lose a day packing, moving, and unpacking again. Kaanapali has kid safe waters at black rock by the Sheraton.

Agreed stick with one island

I was just in Kauai a few weeks ago. It’s a really chill island. Very laid back and peaceful.

Oahu/Honolulu/Waikiki have the most activities but is also prob the most expensive

I never been to Maui or the big island of Hawaii so I can’t speak for those

As they say, "Big island mo' bettah". It's the most interesting as far as its diversity of climate and terrain. It's got it all from lava flows to rain forests and it doesn't have that big city feel that you get from Honolulu. Outside of Koina, it doesn't have a very touristy feel. There're some great family resorts like Waikaloa Village on the North East coast, which is the lee side of the island and is drier and the weather more consistent. It's definitely my favorite of the islands I've been to (Hawaii, Oahu, Maui and Kauai).

Oahu is the most touristy of the islands followed by Maui.

It's tough to make a recommendation without any info. If you want to go all outdoorsy, then Kauai is the place to go. Awesome beaches, hiking, snorkeling, etc.

Oahu for kids. Lots of easy beaches. Shark’s Cove, Waikiki, Hanauma Bay. Lots of shopping and insane amounts of Japanese food.

It’s more touristy but for kids and folks who haven’t been (often), Oahu is pretty damn awesome.

Outdoor activities would have the most on the Big Island imo, but you really need a car. It’s not a quick ride from Hilo and Kona.

Family with little kids is way easier on Oahu. Simple fact.

Looks like Oahu is the place to visit. We mostly want to relax on the beach, eat some awesome food and the wife wants to do some shopping. Thank you for the recommendation.

We just got back from Hawaii (Oahu). We went to Maui about 2 years ago. The kids preferred Maui.

Oahu is much more user friendly for newbies.

Where are you heading to LA from? Why aren’t you bringing your wife?

Disney has a great resort on O’ahu. A bit pricy though...but amazing for the kids and adults.

It is a wonderful place. There's not a lot of Disney propaganda. Very light touch. It is pricey.
