Cubs Sweep . . .
Cards Sweep . . .
Cubs win today . . .
Cubs up 4-3 on the season . . .
Your move Cards. |
6-3 Cubs on the season . . . let's see what the Cards got tonight. |
Sorry to butt into the all akindo thread again.
But it doesn't look good for vlf's hatred of the Cubs. It's now 7-4.

Nothing happened, then Joey Votto had a commercial break confrontation with them.....then news of the Puig trade broke, and Reds fans attention changed to wondering why Puig was still in the game just long enough for Amir Garrett to "Jon Snow" into the Pirates dugout. Then the Reds manager David Bell who had been tossed earlier comes out of the clubhouse going straight for Clint Hurdle. On top of that, Puig who has been traded is trying to fight the entire Pirates team for the 2nd time this season.
The result......Amir Garrett is my new favorite baseball player. Clint Hurdle is a crap stain on the human race, and his team is not much better. |
Keone Kala (Pirates) - 10 Game Suspension
Amir Garrett (Reds) - 8 Game Suspension
David Bell (Reds) - 6 Game Suspension
Jose Osuna (Pirates) - 5 Game Suspension
Yasiel Puig (Reds/Indians) - 3 Game Suspension
Jared Hughes (Reds) - 3 Game Suspension
Kyle Crick (Pirates) - 3 Game Suspension
Clint Hurdle (Pirates) - 2 Game Suspension |

Right-hander Kevin Gausman is headed to the Cincinnati Reds, sources tell ESPN. He was claimed off waivers from the Atlanta Braves. The 28-year-old has one more season remaining until he hits free agency following 2020 though could be a non-tender candidate this winter.

And then Melancon imploded tonight and cost the Braves a win. (He also cost Mike Soroka a win for me in a fantasy league, but I digress.)
It seems like the Dodgers will match up with the wild card game-winner in the NLDS, with the Braves (who are still up big in the NL East) likely to face the NL Central winner. You'd have to favor the NL Central winner, at this point, with as questionable as the Atlanta bullpen is, not to mention that it's not like they have superb starting pitching behind Soroka--and Soroka is more of a control pitcher, as opposed to having dominant stuff. |

I was impressed with our (Reds) offense on Saturday....then I saw the score of the Astros/Orioles game. I enjoy the Astros....I like their guys, but I honestly was happy to see the O's come back and win today after taking that beating. |

To make it even worse, Greene came in after Melancon imploded, and still looked rough. They went back to Luke Jackson today and he picked up the save.
If Keuchel looked stronger, and their bullpen moves worked as many expected, I thought they may have been the biggest threat to the Dodgers in the NL because their lineup is dangerous....but yeah, I do not see it. On paper, if healthy....maybe the Cubs will be the biggest threat? I do not think their rotation is good enough to beat the Dodgers. If the Reds could find their way into the playoffs, they have the rotation to compete with anyone for 6-7 innings....but the bullpen is a trainwreck with no signs of improvement. |

I just think the Cubs would be tough, as all 3 of Lester, Hamels, and Hendricks have pretty good postseason histories, though I admit that their bullpen is less than ideal. In a short series, you'd also have to give teams like the Nationals and Mets a chance, simply because they have starting pitchers that have the potential to dominate a lineup. But both of those teams don't have an intimidating bullpen, either. |

I had thought the AL would come down to the Astros and Yankees.....but Cleveland appears to be a tough out for anyone. Their pitching is strong, and Puig and Reyes has improved their offense. |

The Indians are scalding hot. They lost Carrasco and Kluber and Danny Salazar being healthy and effective is a distant memory, and yet they have developed, seemingly, two new aces in Clevinger and Bieber. And they'll get Kluber back by the end of the month, it seems. Even Carrasco has a chance to help out by the end of the year, and you want to talk about an emotional boost to a team? Wow. Their offense was putrid for about half the season, but they have gotten lifts from Oscar Mercado, Jose Martinez finally getting out of about a one year slump (from last year's All-Star Game to this year's), and, yes, the trade for Puig will help them. I do have some questions about their bullpen in terms of getting the ball to Brad Hand, but they have a good club.
You have to favor Houston in the AL. The lineup might not be as good as the Yankees', but they still mash, and their starting rotation is just absolute filth in a postseason series. |

Maybe, but who knows what the lineups and rotations will look like in the playoffs? Both the Astros and Yankees (especially the Yankees) have had a rough time with injuries this year.
Cleveland is due for a post-season run, but the Indians have been underwhelming in the playoffs. After that spectacular finish a couple years ago, they went down in the first round to the Yankees. We swept them last year, and none of the games were really close. I'd like to see the Indians get it together in the post-season, preferably against the Yankees. |
