I thought the Lakers used up their injured player exception and signed someone else thereby making cousins ineligible for this year. Or am I wrong? Can cousins come back in the playoffs?

He can still play later if healthy and he can certainly be on the bench

Yes I believe he is eligible still. Also he still under contract with the Lakers and still with the team. He can be on the bench all he wants.

Because, he's keeping the dream lineup of Dwight, Boogie, AD, McGee, LeBron alive!

because they want him to be able to achieve his goal of tearing his achilles, quad, ACL, and MCL all within the span of just 3 seasons

Boogie is not going anywhere for a couple of years. They will work out something for next season when all is said and done.

Because they want to keep him around for next season when they hope he can come back healthy. The question will be if Iguodala hits the market, will they go after him and who will they cut to land him?

so does he get better seats or worse seats?

better as he has to sit the entire game so might as well get comfy.
or worse as he is not playing so why give him comfy seat.

Lakers are not going to dump him after an injury like the Pels did. Not while AD is still unsigned after this season.

The Pels made their deepest playoff run in AD's career, then dump Boogie and Rondo in the off-season. A few months later, AD dumps his agent and signs with Klutch and the rumors start to swirl about him wanting to leave.

I think it'll be THT. Boogie is too intimately ingrained at this point. The chemistry is through the roof and I don't see them throwing it off by doing that. THT it is.

I’m very skeptical of his ability to play again in his career but his teammates love him and he’s not currently taking a spot from anyone who would be playing.

Lakers will resign him next year and can give him more money by keeping him on the roster.

I think it was John Ireland who explained this rule on the radio a couple months ago. The injured exception is based on a league-approved recovery timeline for that particular injury. For a torn ACL I believe it's 1 year recovery. Cousins tore his ACL in August, so he's predicted to miss the entire season, thereby granting the Lakers the exception.

However there is no rule that says he's required to sit out that entire 1 year recovery time. So technically he could recover before that 1 year timeline and play. It's theoretically possible he could be ready for the playoffs even though they were granted an injured player exception.

He is still on the team and receiving treatment. So he goes with the rest of the players and more importantly the training staff.

That's interesting. I thought once they are granted the exception the player can't play anymore that year. So it sounds like the Lakers can double dip if he can play this year.

I actually think DMC could be huge for a bench unit next year if healthy. He’s only 29. Use him similar to a Marc Gasol and use him as a playmaking 5 (probably the second best passing big behind joker) and a deep range threat. There’s a place for him.

With his health issues that is where he will spend the season. Let him sit on someone else’s bench next season.

Remember D39 comeback could land him a bigger offer elsewhere next year. We may need DMC afterall to back up McGee. The defense may suffer greatly but offensively 🤪

They paid cold hard cash to draft him and he's an 18-year-old project, so I'm skeptical it's him.

The guys on one year deals seem more likely: Dudley or Daniels.
