Here's an amazing 4-minute HD video clip of Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, and Wilt Chamberlain in the 1970 NBA finals. Almost brought tears to my eyes. Love to get people's thoughts, especially those of you who haven't seen much of these all-time greats:

I saw that footage, years ago, uploaded it to YouTube. Wilt was a cheat code even at that age. He could do it all, except shoot 3’s lol. Logo was the master of that hard dribble pull-up jumpshot. Elgin was a half court player at that age, just go back 5 years when Elgin rebounds then pushes the fast break like Magic.

Given how open that shot is in todays game. Jerry would have a field day off every single pick and roll he got.

Athleticism has come a long way since then. Crazy how different the game looks between the stars of then vs now.

Nah. Jerry (as he was in the 1960s) would be a solid pro/borderline starter, but not an All-Star. He had an OK left hand, but couldn't finish with it, and teams are MUCH better defensively in transition today than they were back then - West flourished in the open court.

Now, If he was born in 1989 and had come through HS/AAU/College with today's rules, the guy would probably be a dead eye 3 pt shooter and a better finisher with both hands. The pull-up midrange is too easy for today's bigger players to defend, but West had a little floater that he would've developed more for today's game.

So, a West born 50 years later would probably be a solid NBA starting PG in this era. Not sure about the athleticism, but the guy's a natural shooter and had a Caruso type motor (without the hops) on D.

The officiating in that era was problematic, to say the least. Mendy Rudolph. a known compulsive gambler, was the head official and some say that the Lakers NEVER got a call against Boston in the Finals if Mendy was on the court.
