With the Bucks, Raptors, 76ers, Celtics, and even the Pacers, is it really still fair to say that Eastern Conference is a joke compared to the West? Outside of GSW, I don't think any of the top teams in the West (Denver, OKC, Houston) are really that much better.

The EC lacks depth. At the top, it's about the same, or even a little stronger.

I won't be shocked if the East wins the title this year. Warriors are still the best, but they don't have the hunger anymore. For the first time in a long time I might feel some excitement about watching the East playoffs.

I wonder if LeBron would have been able to get out of the East this year had he stayed with the Cavs. He was barely able to do it last year and all he had to deal with was the Celtics.

It's top heavy. The top 4 to 5 teams are really good, after that not so much. West - outside of GS - is good 2 through 8.

If we remove GS how many teams are serious contenders?

Houston, Toronto, Boston, Philly and maybe Milwaukee and OKC. That's a 3-1 or 4-2 difference.

East have a very strong top 4 that you can argue would be favorites against any team not named the Warriors in the West.
West has a top to bottom better teams overall. In the bottom 5 you got teams like Mavs, Wolves, Pelicans who are not actually bad teams.

I don’t know about that. They are 15-1 in the last 16 games and have been on a roll since Cousins started playing for them. They could easily win more games than they won last year and this time nobody will take the #1 seed from them.

They seemed to be coasting last year and still dominated when it was playoff time. They already won 73 games and that didn’t help them much so pushing it too hard in the regular season seems pointless for them.

Raptors and Bucks have the hunger to win a title....but, GSW will probably turn it on when it counts and rely on their overall talent to once again win a championship.

The Pacers took them to seven last year too. I've been saying to my friends for a while the Cavs wouldn't have made it out of this East. Toronto and Milwaukee are serious and Philly has more talent than anyone the Cavs faced in th eEast last season with the additions of Harris and Butler.

Yes, and it's not even close. We'd be right next to Miami in the 8th fighting for 7/8 in the east but in the west we're out of the picture and in the 11th spot.

In the West besides GS, OKC and maybe Houston could make the Finals. I think that Denver is still 1-2 years away.
