Especially compared to say, the 2014 draft class? Doing my own research I've seen people say that it's average, all the way to being way better than last year's draft and equivalent to years like 2008.

It did get me thinking though: how much hype about the draft is due to the fact that we actually have a great pick? Would we be excited if this were the 2013 draft class? Probably not...though I can envision the Anthony Bennett threads.

So is this a good draft, or an average one? A shallow draft or a deep one? More similar to 2008 or 2013? Better than the hyped 2014 class or worse? I'm interested in what you have to say...

I just love the word Transcendent

but it's a deep draft. Although probably being a bit overrated on LG because we finally have picks lol. I think there's gonna be an all star or three outside of the lottery.

It's top heavy. The Top 3 is better than most years, and 4-10 is solid as well. 10-20 is average, and I think it drops off precipitously after that, relative to other drafts.

That said, there are several Euros and other ferners who are projected in the 2nd Round that I haven't seen.

top 5-6 players are pretty darn good I think.

It's definitely better than the last few drafts.. I'd say its between above average and good.

The most talented draft since 2003. I think there will be 4 to 6 franchise players, better prospects then Melo and Bosh.

I think this 1st round is very very good. not a transcendent draft, but i see a lot of solid players, almost no busts from 10-25. and 1-8 are very strong. so all around,a great first round IMO.

Top 3 heavy. Top 10 moderate. Average through 35. Then severe drop off.

Nowhere near as deep as 2013, where I felt 1st round material were going undrafted or slipping late 2nd. That's probably why the NBDL is better quality basketball right now.

Interesting. How do you rate the Top 3 vs other drafts, like say 2003/2004/2008/2009?

For the record:

2003:

LeBron James
Darko
Carmelo Anthony

2004:

Dwight Howard
Emeka Okafor
Ben Gordon

2008:

Derrick Rose
Michael Beasely
OJ Mayo
(Westbrook and Love drafted next)

2009:

Blake Griffin
Hasheem Thabeet
James Harden

I think it's one of the more deeper lotteries we've seen. But after that a it's a steep drop off.

From the perspective of who each player was perceived coming into the draft, talent-wise, it's closer to 2009.

I say that because if you look further down the draft list for each year, some years have more star-laden depth than others. In terms of just top 3, it resembles 2004 the most, except Emeka Okafor wasn't a freshman, but an established 2-way post player with mid-range game. Defensive abilities on par with Duncan.

I think at least 3 players in the top 10 of this draft will be multi-year all stars.
I voted for good.

So based on the results so far, it looks like people are thinking this draft will be on about the same level as 2008/2009. Not bad at all.

I wish that ratings like this could be done in a meaningful way but it's not possible because they're not. A draft class is only good in terms of how good it is compared to other classes, and that's a basis we can't summon very well.

We could rate this draft class to past ones but it's meaningless because there's no chance for a common basis. We can't do it because we've already homogenized our old (suppressed) pre-draft opinions, our old real fears, convictions, projections. We use the subsequent knowledge of how the picks pan out in a year, in four years and beyond and we dont accurately recall - unbiased by experience - what was actually felt nor how strongly we felt it on a pre-draft basis.
