From CWebb & Jalen Rose to Kobe, to Lebron & AD. Have yourself a career Rob!

Very nice of him to call Magic right after winning this. He took a ton of crap last offseason, kept quiet, got to work and was able to shift to a Plan B when the first plan went sideways. Got the as a result.

There was a lot of work done in a short time to get here.

Rob looked so (bleep) happy during the trophy presentation, his smile was so wide lmao

Thank you Rob for turning us into the league's top franchise once again, and bringing the Lakers their first chip during my time supporting them. Forever grateful

Magic gets props despite stabbing Rob in the back (not by anything he did while in charge, but by trashing the Lakers and Rob right before free agency, he really was trying to get Rob and the Lakers in a bad spot, no matter how he will spin it after). But Magic deserves props and I have always given it to him for one main reason.

There's a 6-9 Magic like talent who is a Laker and would not be a Finals Lakers MVP if not for Magic being our salesman. Magic was never here to be the GM, that was Rob. He was the salesman. And boy, did he lure in Bron. Without luring in Bron, you do not have a shot at a title.

It's all forgiven, but I will never forget the way Magic trashed this franchise and put them in a bad spot right before the free agency period. He may have been right to a degree from his perspective, but going on First Take, the media, all that. It didn't come back to haunt us because we end up hiring a coach like Vogel who knew exactly how to win playing that Indiana Pacers style basketball where you are less talented on offense but so great on D, you win. We caught a huge huge break with Vogel.

Going to First Take the same day the Lakers were presenting Vogel. I hope Magic apologized to Pelinka in that call yesterday.

Pelinka did an incredible job of putting pieces around Lebron, despite Kawhi trying to sabotage us last off-season. I, too, hope Magic apologized to him and would love it if he issued a public apology to Rob. A job well-done.

bump pelinka to president and bring in morey as GM. I think Morey will excel at making the small changes to enhance the Lakers chances at multiple titles.

He would not allow Lebron, AD to take a single mid-range jumper again. If Kobe Bryant in his prime was on this team, he would not allow him to take a jumper from the mid-range.

He is the classic example of a guy who has never actually played the game at a high level, with great analysis. He has a great brain and tremendous creativity I am sure. Not saying he is not smart or does not know the game at all. But because he never played the game, he never would understand what the Lakers were trying to do and did with AD-Bron.

Pelinka done a great job balancing LeBron/Klutch demands and filling up rosters with little money left, not every GM can do this, Phil Zenesque

Was just thinking this. Has Morey played basketball AT ALL? like even in high school?

Rob was still a rotation player at a top program and won the title. I think you have to have played organized basketball, preferably at least college to be a decent front office leader.

How the hell are you going to put together a cohesive roster without knowing the game? Being a nerd with a slide rule doesn't count.

I've said this for a couple of years, but you can't be so dogmatic in your approach that you pass up good, open shots. Teams that refuse to take that shot are much easier to guard if you don't have to worry about that section of the floor.

Guys have this three or layup mentality so driven into their heads, you'll see them pass on an open midrange to get back to the three line for a harder shot, or they'll attack the paint into a defense that's loaded up and waiting for them. It's kills their team when they are so used to doing this that they stick with it in crunch time of a close game. When a simple, open 15-footer is right there for you, take it. I remember seeing Curry do this last season (I think it was last season, hard to remember after this long season) but he passed up on an open baseline jumper to run back to the three line and miss a challenged three with a couple minutes left in a game.

It's like you've developed habits trying to play by certain rules but that can kill you in the playoffs when sometimes just getting any bucket is critical.

Morey's job would be to help to continue to execute Rob's vision, not change their philosophy to small ball. Morey has many good relationships with other GM's that is why he is able to pull off so many deals during his time with the Rockets. The Lakers could leverage Morey's connections to facilitate trades. Aren't we tired of teams not wanting to trade with us or if they do, we have to give up more than other teams?

Pelinka could not have done a better job and to deliver the title to LA after what happened on January 26th, 2020? Incredible.

Much love to Rob Pelinka, this old fan won't forget it.

And that is not to say every executive needs to have played basketball at a high level, but when you have been in the playoffs and know a players mind, it can only help. You understand the importance of a player who spent his entire life making a shot a weapon, say from the mid-range, and then you just off and tell him, do not take that shot. The FT line shot, has to be one of the easiest shot for NBA wings or guards usually, when open, why not take that? And then if a player is going to isolate, why give him only one or two options?

This is why MDA and Morey failed. They built a brilliant analytical model, that did not take into account what teams would do against it once they figured out that the team does not take a single mid-range shot or even post up. Once you take two pretty important playoff weapons away from a team, you only become easier to defend. Westbrook could have bullied our guys in the paint, if he played for for Vogel. He had some mismatches. Instead, he sat outside the 3 point line and we just kept blitzing Harden then. So then they decide to call more plays for Westbtook, but again, we know Harden is not going to move past the 3 point line off the ball, so it is just us making sure we defend Westbrook well on his drives. Westbrook was not really allowed to play his style of basketball. Ironically, years prior in OKC. a lesser Harden was more effective with Westbrook playing for Brooks. Only because Brooks wasn't boxing them into one style of play.

The Warriors, were one of the greatest shooting teams ever, and even them, they lost to Bron-Kyrie-Love in 2016. So they go out and get one of the best mid-range scorers in the game, one of the most complete (if not the most complete scorer) at the time in the league in KD. Result, unbeatable. You have KD inside, you have KD midrange, you have Curry/Klay firing from outside. Pretty much impossible to beat.

Morey just didn't get it, even when Harden was setting RS all time records, come playoffs every time, his level and effectiveness dropped a bit. Same thing this year. If he let Harden develop a great mid-range game, a post game, with a fadeaway jumper ALA Kobe, MJ. It would only make stopping James that much harder.
