I think it's the right call by the nba from a business stand point.

Just like the JR issue. It's not about these 2 companies being a threat. You nip it in the bud now. For example say coke is a sponsor of the NBA or one of the media outlets showing the game. And Pepsi pays a player to get their logo tatted on them. That's a business issue you don't want.

The whole censoring for corporations thing is outta hand imo. As long as the tattoos don't incite violence or harm anyone, they should be allowed to do what they want to their bodies. That's the kind of world we live in. Greed knows no bounds.

IIRC it’s collectively bargained.

Lonzo is such a brilliant defender. Would LG folks be satisfied if Lonzo ended up veing Shawn Marion with Steve Nash's passing vision?

Love this video and really looking forward to seeing Lonzo quiet the critics this season. He brings a lot to the floor, illustrated very well by your video's GT. Great effort as usual.

Awesome video. Lakers really miss his pace, decision making and defense when he’s not available. Dude just knows how to play fast at the highest level.

It was good to see that finishing strong at the hoop.

Well, that player might not make more than 1-2 All-Star games given stylistic preferences.

Yup. What he brings to the table is already undervalued in extreme ways, and unfortunately for him, he’ll probably be overlooked even more if BI emerges this year on both ends. Just how valuable he is as a player would probably provoke more attention if he added a more ”Showtime” spirit to his game. If you were to transport the innovative flair to some of his passes that guys like Simmons and D’Angelo Russell have, the mainstream people would probably give his game the recognition it deserves. That shouldn't be the case, but that's the way it is since he typically doesn't put up ”monster” numbers.

FYI Fox has gone back to being a scrub after his one hot night of shooting the ball against us. When your jumpshot is that bad, ain't no fixing it over one summer.

I think the more apt comparison is Pippen-esque defense with Nash-like vision at the PG position. Lonzo is absolutely elite in terms of his team defense. He blows up entire offenses with his ability to make excellent defensive reads. Marion had a defensive reputation, but I think his defensive prowess came from his ridiculous length, reflexes and hops. He wasn't known as much for his defensive IQ, which is why I think Pippen is more apt comparison.

I'll take the Pippen comp

Lonzo should retire a Laker.

I have never ever been a fan of his. His biggest advantage over Ball in college (besides being 100% healthy during the matchups) was being on a John Calipari coached team vs Steve Alford. Fox is all flash and dash, which is diametrically opposed to how Ball plays. And I find it hilarious that people wanted to make him a top 5 pick because of his supposed elite defense and Lonzo is CLEARLY a better defender than him as well. Again, all flash.

It also helps to have Rubio and Mitchell guarding him with Gobert behind them to cover up any mistakes.

Elite court vision on both sides of the ball.

I look forward to the day when Lonzo can go into a game and have his respect. I think the players respect him already, but rest of the world can’t see past his shooting percentages last year. This year he will get a lot more easy buckets of cuts at the rim plus his improved form looks good on his jumper so hopefully he can shut them up.

I think the #1 priority for the team, along with keeping LeBron fresh, needs to be to keep Lonzo healthy all year. Having him out there allows the train to keep rolling when LeBron comes out and solidifies our defense and rebounding.

On a side note, I love to focus on Lonzo at the defensive end. I know most everybody here sees it too, but it’s like watching an amazing linebacker in a football game. His instincts for the game are fun to see.

But in this scenario if Pepsi were to make a shoe it would be fair game. Doesn't make sense to me.

It's his own personal brand and life story. The intent of the rule seems to widely miss the mark to me.

His own personal brand would be a tattoo of his face, or “Ball Family” or something like that. BBB is not even his brand, it’s Lavar’s but that is neither here nor there.

Imagine if players just put whatever they wanted on their bodies via tattoos.

Offensive tatoos, say racially/sexually explicit.

Or say a p*rn company logo, etc.

Then you have a collectively bargained deal where the revenues are split b/w owners and players, so do the owners get a cut of Player X's random tatoo for a company?

It's just problematic all around to allow carte blanche tatoos with companies, etc.

It is not his personal brand. It is not his life story. It is the trademark of a company that sells athletic gear. You know all that money that the players make? A significant portion, probably a majority, does not come from ticket sales. It comes from companies that pay for TV rights, marketing rights, apparel rights, and all of that sort of stuff. The money goes into a big pool called BRI, and the players collectively get their cut. Without all of that money, NBA players would be getting paid more like MLS players.

So if a player decides to tattoo someone's trademark on his body in a visible spot, he is going to cover it up. He isn't just messing with the league office and the owners. He is messing with every other player in the league. This is why the union and the other players aren't going to come riding to his defense. You don't mess with the source of the money because you want to promote your dad's silly shoe company.
