He averaged 8/7/1.2 during the preseason I would love to know what Gasol averaged I’m pretty sure it wasn’t better.

Come on now IG, you’re better than that…

DJ was not a problem during the preseason. His defense was decent. Bigs can't do much when the perimeter guys are out of position and the perimeter guys will always be out of position when the offense turns the ball over 20+ times.

He was a problem doc dwight does those things you mentioned.

Why do the Lakers even have a GM? Even a monkey randomly selecting players would yield the same result if not better.

I don’t like how fans are treating DeAndre Jordan, at least let the season play out, Gasol didn’t start making a difference until the all star break…

More to the point: Gasol didn't have a great season for us. If someone's only point is, "Jordan is as good as Gasol," that isn't saying much about Jordan.

I get that the Inspector is Pollyannish about all things Lakers, but we don't need to pretend players are better than they are. If Jordan can give us 10-15 minutes a game that aren't some form of suckage, I'll be satisfied.

Re-posting. Nice numbers by DJ.

Should consider who they each played with and was coached by. Playing with AC, KCP, AD, Lebron and coached by Vogel as compared to playing with Kyrie, Harden, Joe Harris, KD and coached by Nash/D'Antoni.

I included no other stats since defense seems to be the issue being discussed with DJ.

To give a more balanced comparison I used 3 resources and 6 categories.

Bolded is negative
Red are the highest rated

(1) = Basketball Reference
(2) = espn
(3) = NBA

Defensive stats DBPM (1), DRPM (2), DRB% (1), DWS (1), BLK% (1), DefRtg (3)

Dwight Howard 0.3 , -1.62 , 35.3, 2.6, 4.7, 106.3

Deandre Jordan 0.7, 0.13, 26.1, 1.5, 4.6, 114.8

Montrezl Harrell 0.3, -1.79, 19.1, 2.7, 2.8, 105.9

Javale McGee 0.3, -1.94, 29.7, 0.3, 7.8, 106.9

DPPM - defensive box +/-
DRPM - defensive real +/-
DRB% - defensive rebound %
DWS - defensive win shares
BLK% - block shot %
DefRtg - defensive rating

as much as I despise Kyrie isnt it a bit unfair how he basically is absorbing all the vaccination criticism in the NBA while players like Beal who made even more incendiary anti-vax comments are just flying under the radar?

I respect Gasol a lot and it sucked the situation didn’t work out, I like when players prove the critics wrong so I’m gonna be pro-Jordan.

Agree but his past actions has made him a target of the media and in the spotlight of the public. Media will always target those that bring in the best ratings. On the flip side I don't believe Kyrie gives a #$%*.

I was pro Gasol but showing up at camp out of shape deflated my enthusiasm for him.

Definite NO to Exum and Johnson. Not sure how Chriss recovered from his injury. Parker, Okafor and Dunn only if injuries occur. Otherwise wait for the buyout.

DeAndre has been what I thought he would be. I think he can still get up there and be a threat on above the rim plays, and give you some presence at times. The main thing about him is he very low usage. He will not ask for the ball or covet it, unless open. He is a 15 min a night guy. Dwight has been about what I thought, he has remained the same player of 2 years ago, which is positive considering his age. I mean he was old 2 years ago, and he is even older now. Has been able to stay quite quick and strong.

The rest goes to AD. We should have about a good 15 to 18 minutes left for AD to be at the 5.

Really, I think it is the other areas we need to be concerned about, over all this talk about the 5 spot. Have not seen great outside shooting.

And I judge this team when I see Bron play a full game with some quality minutes. Give them about 5 games with Bron playing 32+, AD 32+ and Westbrook at least 30. Then you know what you have and what you are lacking, IMO.

Maybe, but Irving is the guy who is going to be sitting out the season for refusing to get vaccinated. Also, this is how Irving rolls. He is most likely enjoying the notoriety. I'm sure he is reveling in the memes that try to make him look like a martyr.

What brings Kyrie under more scrutiny than Beal (besides him being a conspiracy theory nut-job) is that his team is favored to win a championship this year. Him sitting out will shape the outcome of the NBA this season.

Beal's in Washington...

Definitely agree. The NBA subreddit has become a virtue signaling echo chamber with regards to vaccine hesitancy, and even Lebron's innocuous comments have earned him more criticism than Beal.

People can do more damage by criticizing Kyrie/Lebron over Beal, which gives them power they won't find anywhere else in life.

It has been awhile since I've handed these out. Good call!

LG Kyrie Irving

LG Bradley Beal

I think we are better off at the 5 this year. I also think Melo will be better than Kuz off the bench. Still worried about Frank as he had problems with rotations last season and this season will be more difficult. Cost savings may come back to bite us as we could have had more talent and flexibility.

Beal's in Washington...

Primarly it's due to him playing in New York.
The 2 most restrictive cities are NYC (and Brooklyn has the same laws) and San Francisco (as far as Covid restrictions) So Beal can play in all home games, plus all away games except the Knicks/Nets and W's.
Kyrie cannot legally play in any home games, plus the Nets ruled he cannot be with the team at all.
So Beal can play most games, Kyrie cannot play in any.

I don't think you know what that means. The fact that advocating for vaccines in a pandemic is somehow considered to be virtue signaling is a clear example of how (bleep) our world is now.

You're right, but what's going on in that forum is different than what you described. That's my last comment on the subject. I don't want this thread to become the Nets thread.

Kyrie plays in the biggest media market on a team favored to win it all. He's had a history of outlandish takes including being a flat-earther. He's also had a history of not being their for his team. Kyrie's going to get it and it's deserving.
