https://www.yahoo.com/sports/ja-morant-dunks-his-way-into-american-consciousness-with-massive-tourneyopening-tripledouble-000000703.html

Quote:
Murray State won its fourth-ever NCAA tournament game, and Morant officially completed his box out of Popeye Jones for the school's best-known player. In the matchup with Marquette sniper Markus Howard that everyone wanted, Morant perhaps cemented himself as the No. 2 pick in the NBA draft behind his old AAU running mate.

"He could be like D'Angelo Russell," predicted an NBA executive, "and jump up to No. 2."

Ouch....the burn to Magic's GM skills...

Damn what a game between Duke and UCF. Both teams had huge opportunities to ice it with 2 minutes to go.

The missed alley oop dunk by UCF that lead to a 3 on the other end for Duke late was the killer sequence. They had it if they convert that play.

Hoiberg takes over as Cornhuskers' head coach

Quote:
Fred Hoiberg has been named the next head coach at Nebraska, the school announced Saturday.

Hoiberg will receive a seven-year, $25 million contract, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

my prediction....Nebraska will be a perennial NCAA Tournament team within 2-3 years for as long as Hoiberg stays. If he can turn around Iowa State the way he did, he will be able to do the same if not more @ Nebraska. Look for a healthy diet of JUCO's and Grad Transfers early on.

guess UCLA would not pay the buyout for Dixon.....but do not think Barnes is a good fit...

Sources: Tennessee's Barnes a candidate at UCLA

Quote:
Tennessee coach Rick Barnes has emerged as a candidate for the vacant UCLA job, sources told ESPN.

It's unclear whether there have been in-depth discussions, but there is interest from both sides, according to sources. 247Sports first reported the news of Barnes' candidacy.

Sources: Barnes deciding between UCLA, Vols

Quote:
Rick Barnes, who resurrected the Tennessee basketball program and took the Vols to a No. 1 ranking in the polls this season, is wrestling with a decision to remain at Tennessee or accept a lucrative offer to be UCLA's next head coach, sources told ESPN.

UCLA began aggressively pursuing Barnes last week with a package that would pay him $5 million a year, not counting bonuses and incentives. Barnes was named Naismith Coach of the Year on Sunday and met with Tennessee athletic director Phillip Fulmer later that evening. They had additional conversations on Monday, including some correspondence with interim university president Randy Boyd, about a new deal at UT, sources said.

$5+ Million a year for a 65 year old Barnes! Seems like a big overpay in my opinion.

He rejected them. He's staying at Tennessee.

Getting to be comical at this point.

Coach Cal used UCLA to get a lifetime contract from Kentucky.
Jamie Dixon couldn't get out of his buyout from TCU.
Now getting rejected by Rick Barnes.

Cronin is a solid coach....but I think it is good he got 6 years because I am not sure his style of play will excite UCLA fans. He can take a while to build his program.....Cincy was terrible for several years when he took over, then around year 4 & 5 he got things rolling.

Texas Tech makes a big time statement in basketball.....making Chris Beard the 3rd highest paid coach in college basketball with a 6 year extension. Many assumed it was only a matter of time before a Blue Blood (Texas) stole him....

Texas Tech's Beard agrees to 6-year extension
