White Night by Narada Michael Walden

I'm not a stickler for instrumental music, as the lead singer's voice is often the most important instrument for me. But this jam is tight and elegant, without neglecting all of the poetic/human qualities a vocalist would provide. Masterful composition from the great Narada Michael Walden, with soaring lead guitar work from underrated badass Ray Gomez.

I was never into Elvis Presley growing up. I always felt his music was too "50's" and Doo-Wop.

But I stumbled across something of his that I think was put out recently called "American Sound 1969" and have been intrigued listening to it.

Basically it is Elvis and his band in the studio going through multiple takes of songs, sometimes stopping for a mistake and then redoing it again right away.

Now I get Elvis, in fact I dig him. He really had a unique, beautiful voice and knew how to deliver a song.

Anyone hit replay?

That song is about 1.5 times longer than both sides of Beatles first Capitol LP.

Elvis backup band was incredible, led by Glen D. Hardin and James Burton. It was the band that Gram Parsons always wanted and finally got in his final, posthumously released album, Grievous Angel. You will find some members of that group performing with Emmylou Harris in her early efforts as well.

Swamp Canned Heat? Slide banjo? The Wamala? A West African harp? A trio of mouth harps in harmony? All created and meshed together with the assistance of the church of Psilocybin?

A very way-cool band: Dirtwire

For those who watched the finale of The Affair (A very solid first season, three brilliant final episodes, sandwiching three+ very uneven seasons) the song at the conclusion is PDB (pretty damn (bleep)):

Agree. I was never a big Phish guy, but the work Trey and Mike Gordon have done outside of that is really good stuff.

Yes, Elvis had a lot of great backing musicians including the guitarist Scottie Moore who was very underrated.

I urge people to check out "American Sound 1969" by Elvis. I found out it was just released in 2019 as part of the 50th anniversary of his Memphis sessions from that year.

Another random one since you mentioned Emmylou Harris above, check out this one with her and Mark Knopfler:

I'm waiting for a comforter to dry. I went down a youtube rabbit hole and wound up here: Steam in the Valley

It's not a song but I find it incredibly soulful right now. Also might have discovered that I'm into trains...yikes.

Putting this one out because of the fun and clever lyrics . . . and who doesn't love a good musical pun?
