Yep, that ship has sailed. Even though Jerry West is a Laker lifer, I'm sure at his age he doesn't need to grovel to anyone for a job. They let it be known they wanted to go in a different direction last time, they are realizing the consequences of those actions.

The Lakers now, IMO, need Jerry West more than he needs us. It
would foolish for ownership not to talk it over with him. Lakers are
a mess, he at the very least would be a sign of stability to come for
this seasons FA's.

actually it makes sense why we arent trying to sign him.

Lakers and Clippers are both trying to sign KL. West isnt likely to sign with us so if we try to and he turns us down it makes us look weak and they can use that info to tell KL "look even the Lakers want our guys".

If we go out and sign someone else and down play jerry west it puts us in a more powerful position

IF so, hopefully we sign the right individual. We'll see how this plays out.

Johnny was enrolled at USC as a drama major for a while. Jim majored in math at USC before dropping out. Jeanie was a business major, graduated from USC with honors. Janie graduated from CS Dominguez Hills.

No idea if any crew coaches were ever involved during Jimmy’s application to USC.

lol looks like Janie is the only one who was legitimately admitted into a university

Have you seen Jerry West in person? Have you heard him speak? He is healthier than a lot of guys in their 30's and 40s and his mind is clear as a bell.

Funny. The whole world knows that we would love to have Jerry West and that he has zero interest in joining the Lakers.

You act like the Lakers can get a sit-down with everyone and anyone that we want to. That's not the case.

He is having success with the Clippers, close friends with Steve Ballmer who is worth $40 BILLION. The reason why we are "not trying to sign him" is because we have NO CHANCE of signing him. that ship has sailed. move on.

Jerry is a great guy and I'm fine if Jeanie retains him as a consultant, but he will be 81 next month and, I'm ok letting him not have to worry about all the crap associated with a full time position...

Jerry is going to get KD or KL or both on the clips. Would be ironic if they win a chip. Thanks Jeanie.

I really really doubt that. Maybe KL but not KD.

The owner has 40 billion, that has no bearing on him one way or
the other. It's not like the guy is giving Jerry a % of his earnings.

It's a job, it's worth what it's worth.

More resources to work with = greater odds of success. Whatever idea anyone in that FO has to gain an edge, Ballmer will pay for it.

Yes, I had a season seat next to the scorer's table at D-Fenders games a few years back -- the Santa Cruz Warriors were in town. I was walking up to my assigned seat and noticed someone had already taken it. As I approached the seat, I realized it was none other than Jerry West!

The way he was interacting with Warriors staff and others around him, he appeared to be on a level much younger than his age (77 at the time) would suggest. No, I wasn't about to ask the Logo to scoot over, with my luck they'd probably throw me out. Usually the Toyota Center Staff would re-locate any media folks who sit at the seat to the sidelines, but they turned around and diverted me to a table at the other side (w/ AC Green) so that Jerry could work.

Yes, there is no salary cap for the FO

Big Joe always used to say that Janie was the only decent Buss kid.

One of the problems is that Jeanie has been listening too much to other people. The things people suggest don't work out then people do a 180 and act like the things they suggested were the most obvious bad moves a owner could make.

Or she could hire a competent, experienced PBO, stay out of the way, and let the PBO make those decisions.

Dr Buss put Jim in that role, and we went to 3 finals and won 2 titles with Jim in that role. We were better off with Jim as PBO than what we're dealing with now.
