why is Zion rated so high compare to Julius Randle? here are the similarities between the two:
1. both are 6'7'' - 6'-8'' PF/C tweener
2. both are physical specimens in terms of physicality in the paint
3. neither are good reliable outside shooters
How's Zion's ball handling and passing compare to Randle? Julius can bring the ball up the court and initiate offense when need to.
another thing that's against Zion is this league is such perimeter oriented nowadays, if your calling card is just low post game, then not much upside to look for. look at the best bigs today: Jokic and Embiid, both can shoot decently from outside, even the threes, and both are good passers. not sure Zion has those attributes. |

i don't know, i just think his game is more suited for 10 years ago then today. if you can't shoot from outside then your impact on the game is really limited. |

No. But I've seen Zach Randolph's headband fly off from the free throw line. |

The real question should be, aside from being maybe an inch or two taller, is Ben Simmons really that much better than Julius Randle? _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Zach Randolph’s old. “He should have been out of the game years ago but he can’t stay home cuz he hates his wife. You’ve met her at the Christmas parties... she’s the one that gets plastered and calls him a (bleep).” _________________ DEAR BASKETBALL

Another one of these topics lol comparing randle to Zion lol Zion is so much better and it’s not even close. That’s like comparing Ingram to KG. Sure they are both tall and thin but a big difference in speed, athleticism, and strength. Zion is faster, bigger, and stronger the randle. Zion already is a better shooter and can go both directions. Zion will also be able to play the 3 in the nba. This really is a hilarious topic which shows the myopia of some laker fans. Comparing a unanimous 1 pick mega star, to randle that a lot of teams passed on. Geez. |

Wonder if this has a little something to do with it...
Verticals:
Wilt - 48 inches
MJ - 46 inches
LeBron - 40 inches
Zion - 40 inches @ 285 lbs
Kobe - 38 inches
Julius Randle - 29 inches @ 250 lbs |

Depends how much you value vision and play making at that height. |

I agree that Simmons is a better innate passer, but give Randle the same role as a de facto PG/initiator, I'm not sure Simmons is demonstrably better.
Getting back to Zion v. Randle (which belongs in a different forum and why I am going to move this thread), the level and combination of athleticism/agility/strength that Zion displays is on a whole other level. I'd argue that Zion is also more skilled at the same age. Randle didn't come close to dominating the way Zion did last year while in school. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Is that sarcasm?
Just in case it's not though... aside from being an inch or two taller and having better handles + better defense + better passing/vision + better movement off the ball + more speed/agility + being more marketable... I guess not a whole lot! |

Simmons seems like the more polished ball handler and passer, he seems to be improving his slashing abilities as well. His hiccup to be resolved is related to shooting, of course. _________________ Lakers need to build a freaking team ! |

Better vision, better defense, stronger, faster, jumps way higher, better handle, finishes better at (or above) the rim, etc. This comparison is like saying Kobe is basically Swaggy P. |

physical attributes and measurements used to mean something. but when guys like Steph Curry (body size of your local gym guys), Harden (chubby for a SG), KD (skinny as a chalk) are ruling the league, it make me wonder, just how important are those raw data. to me at least, in today's NBA, if you can't shoot, dribble and pass, you can have a body as King Kong but still limited with the rule changes and flow of the modern day NBA games. |

zion is more athletically gifted. randle is above average
I would say their strength is near the same but zion is bigger so stronger too
randle and zion are the same speed but zion is smoother and has much
better footwork and flow.
zion plays above the rim because he has like 10 inches on randle vertically.
zion has a better stroke and free throws
randle has proven durability tho. and actually has a bigger winspan too.
zion is a way better finisher than randle and creates more room for himself
than randle can ever get. |

Lol the false Julius vert #. And Julius 6’9, Zion is probably 6’6.5. Zion is still such an athlete that he’s just special. Defender too |

I think those are Randle's numbers via combined. Makes sense. |

no they're not. they're using standing vert not max ver for only julius. And using height without shoes for only julius |

I see two very dissimilar players coming out of school: Randle a PF-C, Zion a pure forward.
In terms of having game impact in college, Randle and Zion played with a couple clicks of important differentials. Zion shot from space better, moved laterally and vertically better, had better hands, dribbled the ball better, jumped far better (more quickly, higher, with superior length as well.) Zion blocked shots better.
Randle has improved his game notably in his time in this league, but he's not mobile, long or explosively quick as Zion; never will be either. |

Better athlete.
Better feel for the game.
Randle was never able to take over games at the same age and is still not considered a starter on a good team. |

The simple answer is explosiveness. Randle was fairly dominant in college, commanded double teams, and led his young team all the way to the championship game. Give him another foot of vertical like Zion has? Please. Would have been a destructive force. |

I never was as high on Zion as others and I think a better version of Julius is an accurate description.
I think his best bet is to lean up and try to follow the Lebron mold instead of being this bully PF tweener _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |
