If Adams, like Hollins and Vogel himself, is a defensive specialist, when will we hire an assistant who is an offensive specialist?

We won't win anything being outstanding on defense and average on offense.

Maybe they think Kidd is that guy, even though the Bucks were exponentially better without him

Vogel is a coach not a rubber stamp, he'll implement the O
and approve the D.

that would be the equivalent of getting a max player, imo...

good sign...

The best defensive assistant coach in the NBA... he mentored under coach Boyd Grant of the famed defensive Fresno St teams on the 80s. This hire would be PHENOMENAL.

We're running the Lebron offense anyways.

Running the "Lebron offense" won't get it done. We need an actual offensive system and philosophy.

Imo we need to continue being a running team, as Lebron, AD and Kuz are at their best in transition and early offense. But when we don't have anything, we need sound offensive sets that maximize our players.

As bad as we were defensively the second half of the season, our offensive rating was 24th in the league. We need to be top 6-7 in both offense and defense.

I'm not sure if it was Rob or Frank wanting this but one of the genius aspects of this is that GSW isn't gonna wanna pay a guy when they might be losing KD and won't have Klay. This is the perfect time to try to throw our wallet at this guy and see if GSW matches.

Lakers reportedly trying to lure Golden State Warriors assistant Ron Adams to join Frank Vogel’s coaching staff

Quote:
Ron Adams is one of the key (but mostly hidden) figures behind the rise of the Golden State Warriors and a defensive mastermind, so he would be a huge get for Frank Vogel and the Lakers.

Kidd got traded to Pelicans. We get Gentry.

It was an unreported "coach swap"

Pelicans exercised that right.

I think they also included a team nickname swap as well.

We're now the LA Pelicans and they are the NO Lakers.

This is what makes the Kidd hire so questionable at the price they did.
Lonzo’s gone, BI’s gone, we hired Hollins, and now if we get Adams... what is Kidd’s purpose ?

We couldve made Adams the highest paid assistant to entice him to come to the Lakers

Only speculating but rumors were Kidd and Lebron have a good relationship so his hiring may have been a compromise for not hiring TLue. Since it appears the Lakers had their eyes on the AD trade the whole time, Kidd's hiring may have never been about Zo.

This explains Gentry's recent quote in response to AD's "That's all folks" t-shirt, when Gentry said "That's a haul folks"

I love Luke, but this (if true) points out a weakness of his. My perception is that his assistants were for the most part inexperienced compared to other staffs. A strong staff makes a good head coach a great head coach. Adams would be good, experienced, and knows how to keep settled. I'd love to see this move.

well what do u expect ... The Pels lost their franchise top 5 player so they have to put out a narrative which puts them in their best light.

People don't seem to understand what Pelinka is doing. The basketball personel decisions will be made by the coaches so you need all the best you can get in the room to make that right decision.

Our offense should be as simple as possible.

Let AD set screens up high for LBJ. LBJ goes to work. Have three shooters spot up. AD can spot up, roll to the basket. Options. Then switch it up with Kuzma setting up AD up high to go to work. LBJ comes into the set off the ball. Kuzma tries to get to the basket off the ball. AD is the focal point here. Third basic set up is a Lebron 1-4 ISO. Offense is so easy right now in the NBA if you have talent. Do not complicate it. Get shooters and allow LBJ and AD to go work with Kuzma helping in. We need AD and Lebron to set good examples and set screens for shooters off the ball. It is so simple really if you have the talent.

What we need badly are defenders and for LBJ to get back on track defensively. We need versatility on D. We need good planning and schemes. Luke never got it together on either end at a consistent level.

Right now in the NBA if you have two superstars like AD and LBJ, good shooters around them, and you play unselfish ball, you will be fantastic on offense. I am not worried about O if we get the shooters and play like a team. Typically Lebron does play unselfish. He does well with players that can finish his passes. We need to stockpile on players that like to finish plays. Last year made many mistakes with Rondo, Beasley, Lance. Not the guys that work with LBJ.
