how emotionally weak are the players that they need Dudley to feel better or stick together?

worker morale is a real thing proven by countless studies... that applies to veteran basketball players and doctorate level scientists. And Dudley is not just a great locker-room presence... he can come into a game for the first time late in the 4th quarter after racking up DNPs and still shoot 40% from 3 along with his savy vet instincts. I cant think of another player in the NBA who can pull that off and at the same time be content as an end of bench type player. _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

Yup, there's a reason the Heat have been "wasting" a roster spot on Haslem the last 4-5 years even though they have pretty much no plans on playing him especially in at least the last couple. It's simply not the same when it's a coach versus a guy on the actual roster even if they don't play. Both the Heat and Lakers were widely recognized as having great chemistry. You obviously need great players above all else but having chemistry and legitimately rooting for each other adds more then some believe I think. These guys become family and are around each other much more then there own literal family.
Dudley, for a mediocre player get's tons of respect from a lot of veterans and knows how to talk to a locker room, squash any drama etc. which might seem silly for grown men but these guys also have massive egos and at times when that's challenged bad things can follow which we seen with the Clippers. I'm sure we'd be completely fine without Dudley honestly but having him as that constant buffer for both the young guys and veterans is not a bad thing at all. On top of all that he is actually pretty damn good for a very end of the bench guy who rarely ever gets minutes. |

Anyone who isn’t happy with this signing either (a) doesn’t understand the way that teams work or (b) doesn’t understand the way that teams work.
Oh wait, those are the same thing - yea, if you don’t understand why having Dudley back is a good thing then you just don’t get it.
You need guys on the team who know how to dissect film. You need guys on the team who are OK with not playing, but are intent on contributing in other ways. You need guys on the team who have experience, and can inspire others when times get tough.
We had Rondo, Danny Green and Avery Bradley last year... all of those guys carried some clout. We gained DS and Harrell - those guys are very talented but they have a lot less playoff experience. Gasol has a lot of playoff experience, and Matthews has a bit as well, but having Dudley back brings more continuity and just another needed veteran voice in the locker room to remind everyone what matters along the way. |

In that case, he should have been hired as a coach, not as a player.
Dudley gives a good interview, but the $ would’ve been better spent on D12 |

I asked Dennis Schröder how much of a boost Dudley gave the Lakers tonight, and how he's helped him since he got to L.A.

Dudz is one of those guys I want hanging around with this organization long after he retires. |

Dudz' new book "Inside the NBA Bubble" has some fascinating insights, highly recommended, and free or stupid cheap based on your Amazon situation. |

Quote: | We hear some of those guys (The Clippers) talking about how they’re the team to beat in LA. It’s fine if Kawhi says stuff like that. He’s defending a championship. We don’t trip if someone like Patrick Beverley is talking trash; that’s how he feeds his family. We get it. We respect the hustle.
But we think it’s disrespectful for Paul George, who hasn’t won, to put himself on the level of Bron and AD. This motivates us. When we see those guys around the compound, we don’t really kick it with them. The one exception of course is Markieff, whose twin brother, Marcus, is on the Clippers. This probably keeps tensions from boiling over.

Damn, such disrespect for PG13 around the league it seems. I've never seen a superstar get called out by direct name so many times in such a short period. Usually it's a bit more subliminal at least
I agree completely with that entire statement though. |

It seems like they would have to send a 2nd rounder to trade him in order to create room under the hard-cap. Not really worth it. Realistically he wasn't going to play so if he can eventually travel with the team then that is why we signed him. To be a voice in the locker room. |

Doesn't the hard cap preclude this? |

Tough way to end your career and Lakersnation is forever grateful for Dudz’ services!! 🙏🏀🙏🏀🙏🏀
Can’t help to think the same theory as what Mason Jr. Is thinking.
Definitely bring him back onto the Coaching staff and hopefully Rob can utilize that extra roster spot. |

The only way the Lakers get that roster spot is if we cut Dudley. The Lakers could apply for the Disabled Players Exception which would require Dudley to be on our roster until the exception is granted. |

Pretty sure the DPE deadline was March 3rd. And it doesn't really matter here since it would only give you a DPE for half of Dudley's salary which is already the minimum. It also doesn't mean you can exceed the hard-cap if the Lakers waived Dudley. |
