What I saw of Cook last year, he was really good coming in off the bench in 2nd and 4th quarters, and being the kind of guy who get a good shot, and was very effective taking it to the basket. You want guys in the start of the 4th who can give you quality minutes, make some baskets, and maintain the lead before the big dawgs come back in around the six minute mark.

This. I remember him coming in for them the whole playoffs thinking ‘why doesn’t he get more run.’ Dude was a spark for them when he came in, played confident.

Hoping he can do the same here.
I can see why he couldnt get more run with guys like Steph and Klay starting in front of him

Defense? I'm very curious how well he'll handle defending the league's elite PGs.

So the Lakers could pick-up a sharp-shooter with championship experience to help us get to the "NBA Promised land!"

Impressive game from QC!
Cook is just what we needed; if he plays at this level consistently we'll be hard to beat.

Cook's stat-line: (14 minutes)

16 Points, (6-9 FG, 4-5 from 3 Point), 2 Rebound, 3 Assists, +6

A lot of dribbling from Cook, but definitely shows command in the offense as well as a sweet stroke. A Kuzma/Howard/Cook bench looks to be really strong.

Hopefully he's not tasked with that too often coming off the bench. Bradley and Caruso are better equipped on the defensive end.

Cook and Rondo have both been terrible defenders and are mono-positional - it doesn't make sense to give consistent rotation minutes to both, imo, especially if Bradley remains the starter. And Cook's shooting seems more useful on this team, so...

Quinn Cook calls his Lakers debut ‘a dream come true’

Quote:
Even if it was just the preseason, Lakers guard Quinn Cook was excited to take the floor for the team he grew up cheering for.
Frank Vogel and LeBron James were just as excited to have him out.

Cook is going to be a crucial piece in this team. We needed someone that can break the defense down and get shot for himself and others beside LeBron and AD. He is going to be the reason we blow out teams on many nights with his spark off the bench. Oh he is also going to hit some dagger threes at the end of games.

BVH- any thoughts that Cook's D could improve? Probably not since he was on a great team with great coaching. But it seems to me that he has some size and some tools to be a decent guard defender. I am wondering what the issue is?

They had too many shooters so they wanted to share the wealth with us. Now we beat up on them like there's no tomorrow.

Was Jerry West still with the Warriors when they rescinded the QO from Cook?

I kinda want Rondo to stay out so Cook would get all of Rondo's minutes. He's definitely earned more playing time.

I don’t expect much from him on defensive side. Just don’t be huge liability.

Cook’s game isn’t breaking the defense down, he isn’t good at it. He is a shooter and we need to put him in good positions to shoot.

I'll focus on his defense to start this season, but from what I recall of him at Duke and snippets of his time in Golden State, he's just not very physical fighting over screens and when boxing out. I also imagine he has issues closing out on shooters with his limited standing reach, which is borne out by his BBall Index grades. I think by the age of 25-26 you have an idea of what's in a guy's basketball DNA and he's unlikely to improve much on things he doesn't already do well.

But he's worth appreciating as a Lou Williams-esque bench microwave scorer that the team can really use.
