it is kind of crazy it took that bad call, Tua being out and that weird pick 6, and a missed FG for Auburn to sqeeze out the win. |

Maybe if they scheduled a couple more Western Carolinas they would be rested enough for the Iron Bowl. I hear the Citadel has a date open next year. |

I think they play the Citadel every few years. Last year they played them the week before the Iron Bowl and it was tied at halftime.

Next September, the War Owls' schedule is Houston, Army, LSU, and Lamar. I bet we could pay off Lamar and clear the slot for Alabama. |

Cal has a linebacker named Deng. I wonder who is older between that guy or Luol. (I kid, I kid.) |

Just FYI: Sports Illustrated reported that USC was going to fire Clayton Helton, then SI's Pat Forde reported that Sports Illustrated was wrong and now Sports Illustrated is reporting that Sports Illustrated is wrong. And THIS is why you don't nuke your editorial staff...

Starting with Oregon-Utah on Friday night, we're going to have just over 24 hours of falling dominoes. From a more or less neutral fan's perspective, this is going to be terrific drama. |

Wonder if SI was wrong period or just wrong in the timing, as in USC was planning on firing him but just not yet. |

If LSU wins without much trouble over #4 UGA, they should be #1. They will have wins against Auburn, Florida, Alabama and Georgia. |

I am guessing that Ohio State would drive more ratings in the national championship game than LSU would, and maybe that's part of the reason as to why the CFP would rather have the Buckeyes as the #1 seed. (It certainly appears that this year there is a real difference from being the #1 vs. the #2 seed.) There's also a legit chance that they simply think Ohio State is actually the better team, despite LSU's impressive wins.
I'd have LSU #1, myself. |

It would be interesting....because one thing about SEC teams is they will show up for other SEC teams....is the Minnesota fan that may not watch an LSU game going to be more inclined to watch Ohio State? You are probably correct because you could strap shoulder pads on some kangaroo's and fans in the Southeast would show up to watch. |

USC retains Clay Helton. I guess they are OK with mediocrity. |

I am guessing Meyer told them he was not returning to coaching this year. |

You only fire him if you can get an upgrade in the coaching position.Otherwise you are paying him 20 million to go away and potentially get somebody worse. |

And you're going to continue to see the Coliseum with a lot of empty seats. It's one thing if there are lots of those at the Rose Bowl for UCLA games, and I say this as a UCLA alum. USC has a worse recruiting class this year than North Texas, by the way. I'm just really surprised that they are sticking with the status quo. |

USC
I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they reached out to Urban Meyer.
If they didn't and just brought back Helton to save money, I get it...they have had a lot of bad press (much of it nothing to do with football) in recent years and may just want a good soldier like Helton who graduates guys and flys under the radar.
But if you fire him a year from now when Urban is likely no longer available? Questionable move now at best. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

I like 4 and 5 star recruits as much as the next guy, but in recent years, a lot of USC's guys hadn't lived up to the recruiting hype anyway.
What they really need to do better is get tougher in the front 7 on defense and commit to developing 3 star players and having them play like 4 and 5 star guys. Just getting whoever is supposedly the best WR in LA every year and the latest Mater Dei QB isn't going to cut it. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

You can have a gutty little program by developing 3-star players, but that isn't going to lead to anything truly meaningful, at least by USC standards. You need elite talent to have a shot at being an elite program, or even just to contend for the Pac-12 title every year. |
