Speights has had his workout. Lakers will meet later on to discuss everything, and decide whether to move forward with any of these players.
If we decide to roll with Speights I would be excited, he can duplicate what Cousins was supposed to be which is a stretch big who can knock down the 3.
Um no. He can't defend, score, or pass like Boogie. Not even close. Think of a more squat Channing Frye when he was on the Lakers toasted.
Plus I would fear this reaction if I ever met Speights:
Remember, this is just to fill the immediate Boogie vacuum.
I think with 8 guards on the roster, something will give (i.e. trades will happen come 12/15). We will likely get another big man to be our 3rd center down the road. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

picking from done and terrible is something...
I've seen you assert this over and over without reviewing his really nice play as a role player last year. He was not washed up in his 40+ games with the Grizz. What is your basis for this?
Pure hate. No facts required.
Hopefully deal isn’t Rambo’s LG handle.
Noah seems like a no-brainer, so I’m hoping there is no bad blood between him and Rambis from the Knicks days.
Why does it always seem that there are formerly banned posters on their second or third account floating around (bleep)-posting someone they had beef with before they got banned while pretending to be newbies?
I hear you, but I don't think venturalakersfan is one of those -- he has a very high post count.
You developed a remarkably familiar distaste for other posters despite "joining" the board only a month ago.

Are you on the Noah train?
My sig would indicate such. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

REALLY hoping Speights impresses the bejeesus out of the FO and coaching staff today.
Even if it's only for 15-20 minutes a game, a combo F-C who's 6-10 with a 7-3 wingspan and can hit 37% on 3s while chipping in 8 and 4 a night (like his last full year in the league, while with the Clips) would be a godsend.
What do we think about his defense? That's the main drawback I'm hearing (I honestly can't recall watching him play with any detail).
I'm hoping that having a D-focused head coach - plus a staff with Hollins and Handy on board -- will help make Speights a passable (and not simply a pass-by-able) defender. I also prefer Speights because I think having Howard out there would force LBJ and AD to work harder on offense because the opposing center could just cheat off of D12 and go to either one of them. Even if Speights only did mid-range and long 2 shots, that would still open up the offense more than Howard ever would.
If Speights doesn't impress in his workout, then I'd take Noah, because at least he's shown a willingness to move without the ball and pass and keep an offense going. My only concerns are his age and injury history, whereas Speights is a couple years younger and seemingly more durable.
