Wrong. Look at the title of the thread. It seems pretty clear to me that you see and hear that which follows your preconceived notions.

I'll give you Andrew Jackson, the darling of Republicans today, and Pierce, Buchanan and Johnson, as they acted more like Republicans of today.
Yes, the Democratic Party was once as bad as today's Republican Party. The former evolved. The latter devolved. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

As I am reading the heading, it empathizes what "YOU" thought was popular and thus embraced.

That was not how I read it. Today I think being on a cell phone constantly is popular. I don't embrace the concept at all. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

As I said, the emphasis was on "YOU thought", not "WERE".
I'm not calling anyone out, I just think the original intent of the post was missed - that being what was something "YOU thought" was popular and participated in but that you now realize wasn't as cool as you thought.
I may be wrong about what 20,000 intended by starting this thread. But what it appears he meant is a much more interesting topic than "What was obviously bad at the time even though it was popular"
That discussion is easy and not at all intriguing. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Popeyes Chicken Sandwich. Calling this now even though it hasn't hit peak popularity yet. I'm out. |

The word popular refers to the beliefs or characteristics or trends of some large percentage of a group or some subset of society in general. When something is considered popular it is not something that only an individual, or some small group of individuals, might like.
If the idea was to name some popular concepts or products that I liked in the past that I don't today, then it should be phrased as such. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

Well, there are only... two good deli's in SoCal? (Canter's, and The New York Deli in Torrance). I don't understand how that chain stays operable in NYC. |

Langer’s was the one on the tip of my tongue, but I guess there are more. In the South Bay area it's certainly slim pickings. |

I went to undergrad in Philadelphia. The city actually won alot of awards for best sandwich city. But I only went to the good places when I had the $ for it.
As far as chain sandwich places go. I prefer Jersey Mike's nowadays. Haven't had Jimmy Johns in forever. Are they better? _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

Wonderful and Pink were the same movie. I'm convinced. The protagonist is just of the opposite sex in either one. Interesting Stoltz in his 4th movie as a high schooler (Ridgemont High, The Wild Life, and Mask the others) and they had to pull him from Back To The Future halfway in because he wasn't believable as a HSer. Huh?! And he looked like he could've been Crispin Glover's son. And he was Lea Thompson's love interest in both The Wild Life and Some Kind Of Wonderful, which would've made BTTF even more incestuous than it tried to be.

Stoltz wasn't recast because he didn't look like a teenager. He was recast because his acting style was the opposite of what the role of Marty needed. He couldn't bring the comedic spark that the role required - something even he acknowledged. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know
