Former Nevada basketball player Jordan Caroline is expected to miss all of training camp with the Los Angeles Lakers after foot surgery.

Quote:
The team announced injury updates Thursday night to Kyle Kuzma, Talen Horton-Tucker and Caroline, who underwent successful surgery on his L. 5th metatarsal on Sept. 6. The Lakers' press release said Caroline is expected to miss 10 to 12 weeks, which would put a return around mid November under the 10-week timeline and late November under the 12-week timeline.

Can't wait to hear/see more about the new defensive scheme that Vogel alluded to earlier. So pumped.

The only assured starters are:
LeBron
Davis
Green

The starting center position is a two man race between McGee and Howard.
(I'm hoping it is McGee, because I think he is much more productive at the start of games than later on)

So once the Center position is determined, that just leaves a Guard position and the race for that one spot is wide open and I have no clue as to whom it will be. (My hope for this position would be that AB returns to his previous defensive form and with him averaging 16ppg with the Griz late last season is the perfect fit as a starter.)

So my guess for the starters are:
Bradley
Green
LeBron
Davis
McGee

As far as the first guys off the bench, obviously that is what the Coaching staff will be looking at in the preseason.

Bringing in Howard for McGee is a no-brainer.

As is bringing in Kuz for Davis.

When LeBron goes out, I think you also take out Bradley and substitute them
with Rondo and Caruso for ball handling and assists.

The when Green goes out you bring in KCP.

So first off the Bench looks like this:
Howard
Kuz
KCP
Caruso
Rondo

That leaves the following guys as last off the bench, getting one or two minutes at the end of quarters or (hopefully) during blow-outs:
Dudley
Cook
Daniels

And finally, lots of DNP (Coaches decision) for:
THT and any other Rookies or 2-way players...

Anybody happen to catch Bradley's media day interview? He said his body fat was up to 12% from his usual 3-4% when he was with the Clippers last season. Funny enough, I went back and watched Danny Green's introduction with the Raptors and he mentioned that he was dealing with injuries his last year with the Spurs and that he was feeling much better, he went on to have maybe the best year of his career. I got a fuzzy feeling when I heard Bradley echo the same sentiment. Here's to a great season.

Yup. He was dealing with a groin injury and he's since dropped 40 pounds. If we get Memphis version of AB then he should be the starter. He was just 1st team defense in 15-16, and he's still in his prime. CJ McCollum and Lillard called him the best defensive player in the NBA (I read this on his wiki). I like this signing a lot.

When he said he wants a scheme that keeps the bigs near the basket, it sounded like a zone to me. I hope it's more than that.

I just want to see him healthy and I hope they go easy with him. Don’t push it with any small injuries that could turn into bigger problems, give him rest and see if he can stay on track all season.

NBA teams don't play zone, from my understanding. well, one or two might mix in some zone for a few minutes a game. The Nets did more than that last year.
It's all man D that plays out wider spatially because the Offense doesn't have respectable shooters.
Bigs can play perfect drop coverage in P/R and entice a tough 1v1 take to the rim.. but it's still essentially a switch --- the big is sagging in space, but the defending guard has switched onto the popping screener, if he's a shooter. If he's a roller it's 2v1 and still not a zone.
Tagging from the corner defender - that guy is still in man defense on his man, but has to tag. Then we get the typical term, rotations.. which is a man D concept.
The box and elbow D on Giannis was confirmed to be man...just disrespecting shooters...

I think this is an under appreciated advantage of this team, especially come playoff time. No young players who are going to be shell-shocked by playoff intensity, just a locker room of guys who know how to maintain focus through a long season and keep their poise under pressure in the playoffs. The second best thing to bringing in roster continuity from a championship team is to have a locker room of championship experience.

At the end of the first practice, here are the units — 1st: Rondo/Green/LeBron/AD/McGee; 2nd: Caruso/Bradley/KCP/Dudley/Howard with Cook and Daniels mixed in. Kuzma (stress reaction) is not practicing. These groupings could change daily, of course.

Love the Lakers excited for this season but It seems like there’s not quit the same excitement going on in this forum, usually hoping by now. My own excitement for the NBA has gone down a bit. For me the people around and mass marketing we’re narratives and perception drive the personalities then keeping it real. I prefer players should be able to not interview and be bothered by scripts if they choose not to. Also the shoe industry were China makes these cheap sneakers to sell to us for very expensive price bothers me. Kid labor maybe? Do love the game and excited for this year!!!

When asked about the first group today (Rondo/Green/LeBron/AD/McGee), Vogel said the teams are going to change every day, aside from AD and LeBron playing together most of the time so they can build chemistry. The guys around them will change.

We are in for a pretty awesome season if:

1. AD will be 1st option (his team).
2. The team executes on the commitment to defense talk and it becomes team’s identity.
