This is extremely inconvenient, now I am going to have to force my mom and/or brother to come pick me up at LAX as I zombie off International Flights, there is no way I can shuttle to the freakin ride share.

I apologize Mom, expect me to be cranky and not generous on the tip.

If it reduces the crazy traffic at LAX even a little, it’s well worth it.

This is probably the best solution, even if it's not the most convenient.

I have flown to and from LAX several times in the last couple of months, and each time it has been progressively worse when it came to the traffic involved when dozens of Ubers/Lyfts show up trying to find their rides. Everything just bogs down between those trying to get in versus to those trying to get out.

The idea of the shuttle is less than ideal. But I have gone through a couple of dedicated ride share pickup lots than ran very efficiently. So if they have enough shuttles to run frequently enough that wait times are negligible (which can be done) and the lot is run well. It's possible that it won't be a big deal in the long run, though I am sure there will be growing pains.

That said, I do find it interesting that it is ride share specific, which indicates that the cab companies have probably been in the ear of someone at the city.

The linked L.A. Times article reports that the new policy covers taxis as well.

It's showing it's age and isn't large enough for the number of people that cram through it.

This is why most cities LA's size have a 2nd full-size airport.

Pro tip: just hop on any hotel shuttle and then Uber from there to your destination.

Bingo. You can even do a little research and find the one closest to your destination. But tip the driver.

Hopefully they get light rail. That is why I use Burbank when I can, I hop on the Metrolink herd and there is a station at the airport. All for $12.75.

They are building that people mover, so this inconvenience had to happen either way.

I would like to avoid LAX also, but is pretty much mandatory for the majority of international direct flights, at least at anywhere close to reasonable prices.

The traffic there is unbelievable though, it is not a joke....I bet a lot of people miss flights because of it, I almost have myself.

i have gotten stuck several times picking up people there at night in which i had to wait more than 1 hour to get through 4 lights.

yeah international flights are pretty much the only reason i go there and i try to leave from sfo when possible

Is there anyway to make LAX better? Aside from blowing it up and restarting? Cuz man, you really see how (bleep) LAX when you travel. Shout out to Denver international, love the trains.

It's already under constant construction.

I guess I have been lucky. I've been going there enough that I've figured out a few work arounds. I've been doing a lot of weekend trips lately and I just drive and park in the short term lots. It costs a bit more than the ride share option. But it has been worth every penny given the piece of mind and time saving - both departing and arriving.

Avoiding that whole curbside BS is huge. You just use the cut throughs to the parking lots when parking for departures. And then on arrival, you just walk to your car. All the short term lots empty out in the center of the loop, so you don't get stuck in the terminal traffic.

When you are traveling with just a carry-on, you can be out of the airport while people are still trying to figure out when they will get home.

^This is all crucial info but good lord if your trip is short enough to able to fly with just the carry-on, it's night and day. Game changer everywhere else, too, but especially at LAX.

~5 minutes (if you're lucky) from wheels down to parking at the gate
~5-10 minutes, depending on where you're sat, for everyone in front of you to unbuckle, stand up, grab their stuff from overhead but moving like they're under 1,000psi of water, and get out of your way
~7 minute walk to the baggage claim carousel (skip this if you didn't check in luggage)
~10-45 minute wait for your flight's bags to hit the carousel - this has been a frequent problem for me at LAX. Sometimes they put the wrong flight info on the board but won't announce corrections.
5-6 minutes for all bags to pop out

Vigilant cops walking up & down the curbside, I expect. These guys were already give citations for idling more than 3 minutes before this new mess.
