Markieff Morris's cap/tax figure is $3.2 million.

Any team with cap room or a sizeable enough TPE can claim Morris off waivers.

The Rockets have a $3.6 million TPE and can claim Morris.

Did Shams jump the gun with his front runner tweet?

His agent (Klutch?) is probably working behind the scenes telling teams he only wants to play for the Lakers and not to claim his client. That's probably all he could do.

Rockets have multiple TPE's. The one mentioned wouldn't trigger lux tax.

But the Rockets also have a cheap ass owner.

If the Rockets play the Clippers in the 2nd round then it wouldn't be horrible if they claimed Morris. Gives them a better chance to beat the Clippers. I don't think Morris is going to make the Rockets better than the Lakers.

I know that 2.6 of their trade exception expired in January, and I saw people talking on a forum that mention 12 million expired early February.

Which is why I wanted people to check

Rockets would need to waive someone too if they decide to claim MM, I believe.

I don’t trust this front office. For supposedly knowing all the rules and cap considerations, they look very amateur in way too many situations. It’s become a disturbing pattern tbh.

According to the NBA site Markieff is 6'8 and Marcus is 6'7

Remember they adjusted heights this year

Aren't those heights w/o shoes?

They're lower so maybe

... I have no clue. Lots of people's heights adjusted lower this year (except for Lebrons which went up a little bit. Maybe he was understating his height so teams didn't stick him at PF )

It must be without shoes because Markieff measured in at 6'9.25" and Marcus at 6'8.75" at the 2011 combine in shoes but 6'7.75" and 6'7" respectively without.

No one plays basketball barefoot except for weirdos, so let's call them both 6'9" tall basketball players.

I wonder why, unless Markieff already knew Houston could claim him off waivers, why he would seek a buyout if he wanted to join the Lakers? Or did they miss that?

And can they convince Houston not to take him?

I would not mind getting this kid some minutes to see what we really have. His strength/speed/hustle is off the charts.
