Regardless of who wins, will you count this as a real championship?
Yes, a championship is a championship and everyone played under the same circumstances.

No, the circumstances were too strange for a championship this season to be seen as equivalent to other championships.

You can’t possibly vote for the yes option, not all teams will play under the same circumstances. Not all teams are even playing, only the hand picked teams.

Yeah the teams who were mathematically out of the playoffs sure would make the championship a lot tougher.

As others have said.. you could argue this as a much tougher championship to win or it is inferior in value but either way the fact that bottom 8 teams weren't included has nothing to do with that.

You don’t think that teams tanking affects playoff seeding? It has in the past.

You can make arguments either way. Whoever wins this year will absolutely be remembered more then the majority of previous years though because of everything surrounding it. There will be people tearing the team down that wins it and others who talk about how that team had to overcome so much in this climate to win it all.

If the Lakers don't win it I wont deny that i'll be a bit frustrated considering how they became the clear favorites after that last stretch before the season stopped but I wont say the team that does win it doesn't deserve it. There's still nowhere close to a guarantee they will get through the Playoffs to even have a Finals.

You can do a million "what if's" in either direction but regardless whoever wins should get the respect.

***unless it's the Clippers or Celtics

If this isn't a real championship, it will only be because there's no fans at the games.

It's really pretty simple. If we win then us Laker fans and lebrons fanboys and media employees will consider it a real championship. If the Lakers don't win then we won't.

I'm going on record: there's gonna be no asterisk in my mind for this chip regardless of who wins it. Every team in the bubble wants it bad, and they're all gonna fight hard for it. It represents, for me, the same mix of luck and hard work every chip does.

This is funny but we all know that fans of any team with championship aspirations that doesn’t win this season will never recognize this season's champ as being legit. Hopefully we get the job done but if we don’t then we’re gonna see that kind of thing happening around here for years to come…especially if that other team from LA ends up bringing home the trophy.

Except no other season lasted 8 games before the playoffs. The team that wins will deserve the Invitational title, but it won’t be a season championship.

I mean, three people had already posted that same thing before either of you, so it wasn’t original or funny either way.

I guess if you read every post you have a point. Not sure I was looking for original or funny, which I am sure all of your posts are....but thanks for lookin out person!

A ring is a ring is a ring.

Some seasons, like this one, have unusual aspects.

But there is no ring winner in NBA history that I would put an "asterisks" on if that means their accomplishment is less than any other ring winner.

Everyone has to deal with the same circumstances, and the ring winner has to beat every team that is put on the floor against them.

No, it be would a slap in the face of all our other championships. No fans means there’s no real pressure. It would be somewhere between the Summer League title and a regular NBA title.

A player who couldn’t normally perform in a high pressure situation like a stadium packed with away fans booing at him might be able to perform better.

that's a fair point but I think that the mental challenge of playing during the pandemic and everything that goes along with that (not seeing family for a while, for one) counteracts that sufficiently

to me it comes down to how many players test positive

If the clippers win it than it’s an asterisk. But if any of the other teams win it including ourselves than it’s a legit title

I don't really get this reasoning.

Whether or not their are fans, teams still have to go out on the court and beat the best players in the world who also want to win a ring.

And the conditions are the same for everyone. So I don't get the reasoning that the team which wins benefited from "less pressure"; the losing teams have the exact same benefit.

On top of that, teams have to deal with covid and the bubble environment, so I am not sure I buy they are under less pressure. I could see the argument there is more pressure this year than normal.

Anyway, a ring is a ring is a ring. The team that wins will be able to fly their banner forever, like every other winner. If some people want to try to put an asterisks on, heck, that happens all the time.

I've only become more firmed up in my opinion. These "feel" like real NBA games to me, more so than I expected, and I think whoever comes out on top will truly be worthy of the title "champions."

Absolutely. This is one of the most difficult ones. I can’t imagine being in that bubble for 3 months and having home court taken away.
