Some great choices here. Tony Bennett is my favorite of the old-school crooners. James Ingram is a personal favorite. Steve Perry. Billy Ocean. George Michael. And I've probably watched Pavarotti sing Nessun Dorma on YouTube about a billion times, which is the perfect marriage of voice and song.

I do love Bocelli. There are some operatic snobs who scoff at his voice. Utter nonsense. So he's not Pavarotti. Let him do what he does.

I will add that Elton John and Billy Joel are my favorite male singers, though I wouldn't put them ahead of the other ones I've mentioned in terms of pure vocal talent. Some others I love that I think are great vocal talents:
Barry Gibb, Frank Valli, Brian Wilson (Falsetto Hall of Fame!)
Smokey Robinson
Roy Orbison
Peter Cetera
Michael McDonald (I mean, duh)
Steve Winwood
Placido Domingo (my favorite operatic tenor after Pavarotti, who is in a class by himself)

4 - Pavarotti - best pipes, but cannot get over the accent when singing in English)
5 - Phillip Bailey - best falsetto ever.
6 - Sir James Paul McCartney - the voice of a generation and surprising range. Learned a lot from Billy Preston.
7 - Joe Williams - No one did Big Band & Jazz better
8 - Tony Bennett - cocaine ravaged his voice, but still great.
9 - Luther Vandross - smooth as silk
