Concur fully there, others I'd add:

Robert Plant and Johnny Cash, his cover of Hurt is one of the best things ever:

Some great choices here. Tony Bennett is my favorite of the old-school crooners. James Ingram is a personal favorite. Steve Perry. Billy Ocean. George Michael. And I've probably watched Pavarotti sing Nessun Dorma on YouTube about a billion times, which is the perfect marriage of voice and song.

Andrea Bocelli covering Ed Sheeran’s song in Italian is pretty nice too

One of my favorite songs. I first heard it at the end of the movie Colombiana starring Zoe Saldana

I do love Bocelli. There are some operatic snobs who scoff at his voice. Utter nonsense. So he's not Pavarotti. Let him do what he does.

I will add that Elton John and Billy Joel are my favorite male singers, though I wouldn't put them ahead of the other ones I've mentioned in terms of pure vocal talent. Some others I love that I think are great vocal talents:

Barry Gibb, Frank Valli, Brian Wilson (Falsetto Hall of Fame!)

Smokey Robinson

Roy Orbison

Peter Cetera

Michael McDonald (I mean, duh)

Steve Winwood

Placido Domingo (my favorite operatic tenor after Pavarotti, who is in a class by himself)

My top 5 male vocalists of all time in no particular order:

Otis Redding

Tom Petty

Sam Cooke

John Fogerty

Chris Robinson

Not all of them classically great singers, but you recognize them right away.

Lucky. I was too young to be interested in an MJ concert.

I saw Fogerty at the Bowl in 2022. He can't strain his voice like he did in the 60s but he still rocks.

My vote will always be for Marvin Gaye.

But that's just me.

Plenty of other great voices posted above as well.

Bye.

Great choice. Marvin is on my list. The list one could make could fill 2 pages. His demise was tragic and the music world lost one the its greatest innovators. RIP

Don't know if I have a favorite, but here are some I think are great

Dennis Brown (Caribbean people know)
Sam Cooke
Bob Marley
Righteous Brothers
Smoke Dog otherwise known as Smokey Robinson
Not into country, but I always liked Kenny Rodgers
Wallace Scott (The Whispers)

This is a feel good thread. It's nice to not argue with someone for once.

1 - Sinatra (#5 voice, but when you add in the swag points) . . .

2 - Sammy Davis, Jr. (GOAT, pound for pound)

3 - Bruno Mars (2nd GOAT - can do it all)

4 - Pavarotti - best pipes, but cannot get over the accent when singing in English)

5 - Phillip Bailey - best falsetto ever.

6 - Sir James Paul McCartney - the voice of a generation and surprising range. Learned a lot from Billy Preston.

7 - Joe Williams - No one did Big Band & Jazz better

8 - Tony Bennett - cocaine ravaged his voice, but still great.

9 - Luther Vandross - smooth as silk

10 - J.R. "Johnny" Cash - iconic voice.
