Interesting and valid points - DB. With the Kings (and probably other future teams) will "stretch" Kobe out on the high screens to prevent him from penetrating the paint - what is the counter to this move? Maybe LO should be the screener and "slip" the screen to the paint?

When we played the Rockets in the playoffs a couple years back, they doubled Kobe off the pick and roll and tried to push him out. The best counter was running the pick and pop with Malone since he could hit his jumper. So, you saw Karl get 30+ points in one game. Cook can run the pick and pop well, so can Mihm (but he's no longer and option). I'd definitely like to see more Kobe/Lamar two-man game, but it's been pretty rare. Lamar could attack the paint or make an extra pass...but he wouldn't be good for the pick and pop. Generally, they keep LO at the top of the key and Kobe hits him with a pass and Lamar looks to find the original screen man with the ball.

The Lakers also need to go back to getting Kobe the ball on the weakside ball reversals when he's drawing a lot of attention. He can post up in the in the midpost or wing and attack before the help defense gets there. (And guys need to cut from different spots when he's attacking instead of standing on the perimeter).

There plenty of things they can do, and even though Kobe's game has been a little off, their scoring hasn't been too bad... What they really need at the moment is to stop settling for the long ball or committing silly turnovers, which results on other teams getting out on the break. Hopefully, teams will not decide to throttle up their running games on us in the meantime.
