He has certainly taken on a challenge over there. Probably more so than he thought. I can see how Golden State would be the more attractive job for Kerr. The Warriors are good to go and the Knicks roster is one big question mark right now. |

Good choice, because we saw how much rope they gave Mark Jackson. _________________

Geography probably had to do with this decision as well. He would have to move to New York and uproot his family. So the chance to coach a better team and closer to home probably played a big factor. |

I guess, but I'd have hang ups working for an organization that canned their last coach that was actually successful. This is the Warriors we're talking about too, it's not like that organization hasn't been awful for a very long time themselves. _________________

Who is next on the Knicks list? Kurt Rambis? It sounded like they wanted someone to run the triangle.
Warriors take another chance on a ex player with no coaching experience. Seemed to make more sense for the Knicks since Phil wanted someone with triangle experience. |

Things have a way of always working out to Phil's advantage. It'll be interesting to see his next move. |

But . . . but . . . but . . . everyone was supposed to go running to PJ in New York - ESPECIALLY those with any ties to him . . . |

Good move for NY. Giving a rookie coach 5 years and veteran proven coach money is ridiculous.
Write it down. Kerr and warriors take a step back this season. Mark Jackson wasn't a great Xs and Os coach but he had his guys playing hard and responded to him. I don't think Kerr wins that team over.
Phil should just coach one more year and Establish Melo in the triangle himself. Then bring in another guy a year or two down the road. Riley did same with Spoelstra. |

Is it just me or did it seem like Phil was the sole reason Kerr was getting such hype as a potential coach? |

Pretty much. I can't recall the last time a guy who had zero NCAA or NBA coaching experience get 25 million/5 years type of money. |

Thought that Phil wanted to coach by proxy so he thought he found himself a mini-puppet in Kerr. It's probably best that he found out they're not on the same page now, rather than later. I was puzzled by his choice in Kerr in the first place, not convinced it would work in NY or anywhere for that matter. If Kerr coaches like he commentates, it will be a short stint up north.
In any case, congrats to Golden State on getting their "yes" man.

He could in a situation where he isn't going to come in and try to win over something that the guys already have going and like. I'm not sure what Kerr will do, but I don't think he likes to run and gun and play like GST does. One of the things he often talks about and even did in PHX is get in a post up player and slow things down. That's why he traded for Shaq as their gm.
Ny was a much better fit for him, because the team is looking for a new leader and just had a regime change. Warriors otoh liked Jackson, and wanted to play for him. They seem like a team that needs MDA or someone like that more so than Kerr. I'm surprised GST went after Kerr over MDA. I think that team was tailored made for DANtoni. |
