D’Angelo Russell Says ‘Risk-Taking’ Led To Turnovers In Summer League
by Ryan Ward - lakersnation.com

Rookie point guard D’Angelo Russell didn’t make much of an impression during the five games played by the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Summer League. Russell’s performance was heavily criticized due to the large amount of turnovers committed by the Ohio State product as well as the team failing to win more than one game in Las Vegas.

Although Russell’s turnovers were concerning, it was to be expected considering his style of play and the short time he had to build some chemistry with his new teammates. Russell spoke about his turnovers during Summer League play and what he and the team can do to limit them moving forward, via Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe:

Michael Jordan thinks five greatest Bulls would 'Kill' five greatest Lakers
by Harrison Faigen - silverscreenandroll.com

In July, Shaquille O'Neal and Scottie Pippen went back and forth on social media about whether the five best Los Angeles Lakers players would beat the five best Chicago Bulls. The best ever Chicago Bulls player and current Charlotte Hornets owner, Michael Jordan weighed in with his opinion at his basketball camp in Santa Barbara, California (via ESPN):

Analyzing Ryan Kelly's sophomore slump and his future with the Lakers
by Ryan Kelapire - silverscreenandroll.com

The '13-14 Los Angeles Lakers season, at the time, was statistically the worst season in Lakers' history. The team lost 55 games and missed the playoffs for the first time since '04-05. Kobe Bryant returned from his Achilles injury, then suffered another season-ending setback after just six games. Steve Nash appeared in just 15 games. Pau Gasol was constantly involved in trade rumors, then got vertigo at the end of the season. It was a disastrous year.

There were a few bright spots, though. Nick Young had his best season as a pro, averaging nearly 18 points per game with a career-high 56.4 true-shooting percentage. He also gave us the "Swaggy Pau" moment and the infamous "celebrate like you made the three, but the shot actually rimmed out" meme. Kendall Marshall, who was signed after every other point guard option was injured, started 45 games and was a threat to put up a double-double in each game.

But the brightest of all the spots was Ryan Kelly's emergence. The Lakers selected Ryan Kelly with the 48th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. At 6'11", and with the ability to hit shots from the perimeter -- Kelly made 41.1 percent of his three-point attempts in his final two seasons at Duke -- it was clear that Kelly's role in the NBA was going to be as a stretch four.

Byron Scott Calls Out Michael Jordan With Golf Challenge
by Ryan Ward - lakersnation.com

It is no secret that Los Angeles Lakers head coach Byron Scott is an avid golfer. Scott spends a lot of his time on the golf course and has no problem letting people know just how good he is with his clubs.

Coach Scott recently took to Instagram to issue a challenge to a certain NBA legend that also sports multiple championship rings and a love for golf. Scott called out Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan claiming the six-time NBA champion wouldn’t have a chance against him:

How Much is a Free Agent Kobe Bryant Really Worth in 2016?
by Kelly Scaletta - todaysfastbreak.com

Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports recently interviewed Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant about his future. The interview was pretty much what you’d expect with Bryant giving the kinds of answers he always does. What was unique about this one is that the most intriguing part was a question, not an answer.

Spears asked Bryant, “When you see the mammoth money that could be available to you as a free agent next summer, does that make it more attractive to continue playing?”

And Bryant answered:

Ed Davis wanted to remain with the Lakers
by rotoworld

Ed Davis, who signed a three-year, $20 million deal with the Blazers, said that he originally desired to re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak made no secrets that Davis was a favorite of his, and had Boss Davis waited a couple of days, it's possible he would have remained in Los Angeles. Regardless, it's all a moot point now and Davis will look to carve out a sizable role with a rebuilding Portland team.

I think risk-taking can be good in a talented PG. The team just has to gel.

I hope he's not neutered because he's afraid to take risks in the future.

Lakers holding big 14-player workout featuring guard prospects

By Drew Garrison  @DrewGarrisonSBN on Aug 10, 2015, 9:14a 3

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports
The Lakers haven't let up on their scouting efforts.

The Los Angeles Lakers are still digging through prospects as they try to round out their roster. The Lakers are expected to hold a workout featuring Toure' Murry, Bobby Brown, Sean Kilpatrick and others in a 14-player group, according to Sportando and various reporters.

Los Angeles reportedly signed undrafted rookie Jonathan Holmes to a "significant partial" guarantee, bringing in a player who projects as a tweener forward. The Lakers are looking at their options as they prepare to finalize training camp invites, where they coaching staff will get its first opportunity to work with the full roster hands on. The Lakers have one roster spot open, though both Jabari Brown and Tarik Black's deals are non-guaranteed until Jan. 10.

Lakers to work out Bobby Brown, Toure Murry, others

As you read this, the Lakers have 12 guaranteed contracts in place for the upcoming season. Then there are a couple non-guaranteed deals from guys who could, maybe even are likely to make the final roster in Tarik Black and Jabari Brown.

D'Lo Calls Kobe Bryant 'His Michael Jordan'
by Kyle Newport - bleacherreport.com

Los Angeles Lakers rookie D'Angelo Russell was born in 1996—or in other terms, the start of the Chicago Bulls' second title run. That means the 19-year-old Laker never got to follow Michael Jordan during his prime the way other current NBA veterans did.

He did, however, get to watch Kobe Bryant during his prime.

As a result, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft views his new teammate as his version of Jordan.

On SiriusXM NBA Radio's NBA Today with Justin Termine and Noah Coslov, Russell revealed his thoughts on the Black Mamba and some other interesting topics:

Young players have to figure out what risks they can take and which ones they can't. Kobe used to go seemingly full speed on every play when he was a young rookie. In time, he figured out how to pick and choose his spots. I'm sure Russell will figure out that pros are quicker and that he can't cross over in a defender's face. I believe he'll adjust with a little experience under his belt.

In time Russ, as any other PG, will learn where his teammates usually are and how they move.
Playing first time together with new teammates when your passes are surprising = turnovers.

Time helps.
