With the likelihood of probably keeping our Top 3 Pick what would you do if you could play GM?

As much as I'm a Dlo fan (OSU and LAL) I'd take Fultz and deal Russell in a PG13 deal or keep him and sign George the next year. Fultz looks like the real deal. I'd be open to a trade but I'm not sure they'll get the value vs just keeping him.

Draft fultz.

I gather bird wants Ingram over Dlo. So be it.

Fultz
Dlo
Pg13.
Let's go.

I think Bird would want Fultz in this scenario as he has more potential and if they trade PG13 then Teague will likely leave and they'll need a pg.

Draft Fultz, keep him, move Russell to SG, use the season as a development season, and sign Paul George in the 2018 offseason.

Draft Fultz. If Ingram makes the next step, I wait it out and sign PG13 in the off-season.

Draft the best player available. Likely to be a PG.

I'd then see what a DLo + Randle package can bring back in terms of a veteran player.

I absolutely wouldn't trade the #1 pick for PG13 and I wouldn't offer much more than DLo + Randle and the Houston pick for him via trade. I'd focus more on building the roster from the ground up to entice PG13 to come via free agency.

There is no chance the Lakers compete for anything more than a playoff spot or 1 series win, at best, next season with or without PG13. No need to sacrifice assets by rushing things when he wants to be in LA as a free agent anyway.

I'd only trade the #1 overall pick for a current 1st team All NBA player, KAT, AD, or the Greek Freak.

Fine with that too, though pg13/Ingram sort of occupy a lot of the same spot on the court. Just 1 of the 3 top assets and I'm ok with a deal (and fillers).

Draft whomever impressed us the most at workouts between Ball and Fultz.

Continue our progress. Go after Paul George in free agency, and not lose anyone.

Have George mentor Ingram (keep in mind, Ingram would be 20 while George would be 27-28, by the time George was 31, Ingram would be 23 and ready to start coming into his own, and after years developing and being mentored by George, it would be the time)

Dunno why we couldn't just go about it that way.

The age of our team 5 years from now (when George would be 31)

D'Angelo Russell, 26
Markelle Fultz / Lonzo Ball 24
Brandon Ingram 24
Julius Randle 27
Ivica Zubac 24

Our core all around would still be younger than anyone on Golden State NOW...

So why not go about it that way?

I guess they'd draft BPA. Keep all the youngsters for an year. Probably try to sign RW and PG13 as FAs and trade for Butler using assets. Might have to give up a piece to dump Deng. Build with those 3 and whoever is left.

How about trading it for a different star, and that would for sure entice George to come in Free Agency

If Ball is available I think the Lakers might draft him, he seems to be a possible guy that they will say is the next PG to make your team instantly better in their first year, like some one out of Michigan State

Hopefully picking up Lonzo Ball we can move Russell to shooting guard, and see about getting Paul George, I think that if George tells Indiana, I wont resign and I want to play for LA, if you don't comply I walk and you get nothing, can you dream of this lineup?

PG Ball 6'6
SG Russell 6'5
SF George 6'9
PF Randle 6'10
C Mozgov 7'1

Lonzo Ball stats

2014: As a junior in 2014–15, he averaged 25 points, 11 rebounds, 9.1 assists, 5 blocks and 5 steals

I would think, grossly inflated numbers due to Chino Hills style of play.

Fultz went from JV to Top 25 in 2 years.

Quote:

Entering his sophomore season, Fultz hit a growth spurt. His height, combined with his high basketball IQ, equipped him to play every position. “I think that kind of helped [his] overall game,” said Corey McCrae, who coached Fultz on jayvee. Fultz said he never got discouraged, that he just believed it would all work out, but the decision to table his varsity debut undoubtedly fueled Fultz. He ended his sophomore season behind schedule on the modern recruiting calendar, but he was eager to make up ground. “I never got frustrated, really,” Fultz says, adding that “I love the game, so no matter if I’m playing JV or varsity, I’m going to do it to the best of my ability.”

You should always draft best player available, you always have the option to trade later and by following this practice you've got the best player to trade or if the pick crowds a position you can always trade away the extra depth that the pick caused.

Anyway you look at it, "best players" makes sense and was in general always the position that Jerry West and Mitch both held....
