trade idea to free up cap space and not lose Randle, Zubac, etc.

Just tinkering with ideas to rid ourselves of Deng's cap space killer of a contract and allow us to keep Randle, Zubac, and Nance and still have enough cap space to go after two stars.

This is a three way designed to take advantage of the Knicks' desire to trade Carmelo to Houston.

Houston
Carmelo Anthony from Knicks

Knicks
Jordan Clarkson and Luol Deng from Lakers
Tim Quarterman from Houston

Lakers
Eric Gordon and Trevor Ariza from Houston
Mindaugas Kuzminskas from Houston

Houston and/or Lakers may need to include a draft pick or two to the Knicks.

We free up $18 mil for 2018 free agent class giving us $60 mil to spend while keeping Randle, Zubac, and Nance. Gordon's contract is basically a push with Clarkson's plus he gives us a decent player at SG ... a position of need. Both Ariza and Kuzminskas are on expiring contracts.

Houston turns Gordon and Ariza into Melo.

NY gets a good young player at a position of need plus a draft pick or two. And if Deng's got anything left, he gives some replacement for Melo.

Just wishful thinking as I hate the thought of losing Randle, Zubac and Nance for a chance to sign PG13 and Lebron ... with no guarantees it will happen.

Thoughts?

Doesn't look like the Knicks benefit at all.

They have looked at dumping Melo for nothing. If they want to get rid of him, they are going to need to accept something. Not much out there being offered.

Because they just signed Hardaway ... also a SG ... to a HUGE 4 years, $72 million contract. They need a PG. Clarkson would be a great addition for them at PG. Gordon is redundant with both Hardaway and Courtney Lee.

So after Lakers gave up Russell to unload Mozgov, you think Clarkson is viewed favorably enough to unload Deng, a worse contract than Mozgov? Nope, not going to happen.

The reason a Melo to Houston trade hasn't happened yet is because Houston insists on including Ryan Anderson to the deal and Knicks refuse to take him. They are looking for a team who is willing to take on Ryan Anderson.

Lakers: Trevor Ariza + 2019 2nd Round Pick From Knicks - Expiring contract for 2018 cap space

Rockets: Melo

Knicks: Reggie Jackson + Clarkson - They need PG and they get 2 serviceable players.

Pistons: Ryan Anderson + 2018 2nd Round Pick From Rockets - Reunites Anderson with SVG, the coach he had a lot of success with.
