I prefer the 2-3 max player, win now strategy. But since there is so much lamenting about losing young talent, here's an alternate strategy for you.

Trade Lebron for Zion.

Sign Randle to $20M/year, Zubac to $18M/yr, All-Star D'Angelo Russell to $25M/year, and Caruso to $1M/yr.

pg - 1.Ball ($8.7M), 2. Caruso ($1M), 3. Bonga ($1.4M)
sg - 4. Russell ($25M), 5. Hart ($1.9M)
sf - 6. Ingram ($7.3M), 7. Kuzma ($2M)
pf - 8. Randle ($20M), 9. Zion ($8.1M)
c - 10. Zubac ($18M), 11. Wagner ($2.1M)
12. 10th pick - $3.5M
dead salary - Deng ($5M)

Total - $104 M for 12 players

Risks
- Probably won't make playoffs during 19-20 season
- Championship is at least another 3-5 years away
- Injury prone/GP (Ball/47, Ingram/52, Hart/67, Kuzma/70)

Original Scenario:
Trade Lebron for Zion, Clarkson, and Nance (Zion might be tough to get, but Cavaliers are probably willing to let Clarkson and Nance go in a multi-team trade).

Sign Randle to $16.5M/year, Zubac to $16.5M/yr, All-Star D'Angelo Russell to $19M/year, and Caruso to $1M/yr.

pg - 1.Ball ($8.7M), 2. Caruso ($1M), 3. Bonga ($1.4M)
sg - 4. Russell ($19M), 5. Clarkson ($13.4M), 6. Hart ($1.9M)
sf - 7. Ingram ($7.3M), 8. Kuzma ($2M)
pf - 9. Randle ($16.5M), 10. Zion ($8.1M)
c - 11. Zubac ($16.5M), 12. Nance ($12.7M), 13. Wagner ($2.1M)
14. 10th pick - $3.5M
dead salary - Deng ($5M)

Total - $119.1M for 14 players

Risks
- Randle, Zubac, and Russell may get larger offers from other teams
- Probably won't make playoffs during 19-20 season
- Championship is at least another 3-5 years away
- Injury prone/GP (Ball/47, Ingram/52, Hart/67, Nance/67, Kuzma/70)

I've moved on. This scenario is for those lgers that are still lamenting about Randle, All-Star Russell, Zubac, and even Clarkson and Nance. I don't see one player there that can dominate.

C'mon be nice.
But totally agree.
Totally hate this Utah ideal.

I can't believe you've only posted 467 times in 8 years. C'mon, what's your real LG account?

What part of the proposal is stupid?

A. Trading Lebron? (Go to the Lebron thread where many are saying he is old, doesn't fit with the youths, is taking over the team, blah, blah blah). He is still a dominant player and we should be lucky to have gotten him.

B. Paying Zubac, Russell, and Randle $16+M/year? If they weren't traded away, that's the cost to have retained them. IMO, those guys are decent but not worth that money.

Damn this is funny, idk what's worse: thinking the cavs will send Zion here, or bringing Zion off the bench.

Whoever said the Cavs would have Zion? Lebron is the asset for getting Zion + other talent that would be traded to the Cavs for Clarkson and Nance.

Zion off the bench: Damn you overrate college skills. He is still a boy among men in the NBA and needs to prove that he can be the starter.

Just pulled from another thread.

I would feel more comfortable paying DLo $25 Million for 4 years than Kemba $31 Million for 4 years.

OK. Let's pay DLO and Randle more and not go after Clarkson and Nance. That makes trading Lebron for Zion simpler.

We made a major mistake trading Zu, but $18MM a year for him? He will be lucky to get even half of that per year.

let’s just say you’re right. At $9M/yr, shouldn’t Zu start? Should the Lakers go after him at that price or use that amount to go after a max free agent?
