No LeBron, No W... The past year, we’ve seen very little of LeBron AND Davis on the court at the same time. With AD back, LeBron rested in this one with a sore knee.

Despite a strong 31 points from AD, the Lakers really missed someone making the role players better. Westbrook had twice as many turnovers (6) as he did assists (3).

The offense struggled in the second half scoring just 39 points as the Lakers fell 105-87 to the Sixers.

Davis -- -- With no LeBron, he’d have to do a lot of heavy lifting to get this W. Embiid has been playing strong ball, but AD went at him tonight. He poured in 23 points on 10-13 shooting in the first half. He had some nice face up attacks with speed for scores. He hit some midrange. Some moments cleaning up dribble penetration with some putbacks. And he finished strong on some two-man sequences. Aggressive AD, looking like his old self. He hurt his wrist in the first quarter on a dunk (and x-rays came back negative). He said it was a little sore. Hopefully, no big deal, but enough to get it checked on afterward. They’ll see how his knee is on whether he goes tomorrow night. He said it was a little sore in this one. Lakers missed LBJ being on court while AD rested. Sixers got separation early when AD sat. Very mobile looking. I want to see this guy with LeBron on the court. Embiid had 26 on 9-20 shooting and 7 assists. The Stats: He scored 31 points on 14-21 shooting (0-1 from three, 3-3 from the line) to go with 12 boards (3 offensive), 1 assist, 2 steals, 4 blocks, 3 turnovers and 4 fouls in 34 minutes. He was a -7.

Westbrook -- -- Again, more turnovers (6) than assists (3). We needed some good playmaking with LeBron out. That didn’t happen. Again, though, some better moments finishing around the rim. He also hit a couple of threes. Defensively, not great. There was a sequence where Reaves had to close out to his man and then Westbrook’s while Russ moved about a foot. That won’t cut it. The Stats: He scored 20 points on 9-15 shooting (2-3 from three) to go with 4 boards, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 6 turnovers and 1 foul in 34 minutes. He was a -11.

Monk -- -- The three ball wasn’t falling. Again, when we don’t have one of our big three playing, we really need someone stepping into that vacuum. Neither he nor Melo filled that void tonight. I like seeing the strong handoff plays with Monk where he teams up with AD. Some definite chemistry on those sequences. We need a few more of those in our playbook. The Stats: He scored 11 points on 3-13 shooting (1-6 from three, 4-4 from the line) to go with 4 boards, 5 assists, 2 steals, 3 steals and 2 fouls in 31 minutes. He was a -8.

Johnson -- -- I’m not going to lean on him for big offensive games. He did what we need him to do in this game. He hit the glass, blocked multiple shots and had a steal. A lot of pressure D on Embiid, causing some problems. I love watching him set flare screens for shooters on the weakside. He’s constantly hunting them out. Little stuff that helps around your superstars. The Stats: He scored 2 points on 1-6 shooting (0-3 from three) to go with 7 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocks, 1 turnover and 2 fouls in 25 minutes. He was a -2.

Bradley -- -- In a game like this, we need more impact from our guards. Just a single bucket on a putback for AB. Defense wasn’t great. He got backdoored for a layup. The Stats: He scored 2 points on 1-4 shooting (0-2 from three) to go with 2 boards, 1 assists, 1 turnover and 1 foul in 26 minutes. He was a -1.

Anthony -- -- He was not having it from some jackass fan in the stands in the fourth that called him “boy.” You saw him talking as he came down court a possession or two earlier. When the whistle finally stopped he went right over there to the fan and got on him. Security kicked a couple of them out. Then he got into it with another fan while waiting for that to finish up. As for on the court, he sank a three, got into some midrange for scores. Unfortunately, no LeBron forces us to rely on him more on D. The Stats: He scored 9 points on 4-11 shooting (1-4 from three) to go with 3 boards, 1 assist, 2 turnovers and 2 fouls in 26 minutes. He was a -10.

Howard -- -- That first shift, we quickly fell behind when AD sat. He scored a putback on a wild Russ drive. He’d erase a bucket later, getting an illegal screen that wasn’t necessary when Reaves hit a pull-up jumper. The Stats: He scored 2 points on 1-2 shooting to go with 7 boards, 1 turnover and 3 fouls in 12 minutes. He was a -9.

Horton-Tucker -- -- He had the team-low -23. We’ve been running him with LeBron recently, but no LBJ tonight, we really needed Talen to turn it up. That did not happen. He made a three behind a screen and scored a layup for his two buckets. He should have had another layup, but for some reason opted to try to reverse it and was blocked. The Stats: He scored 7 points on 2-8 shooting (1-3 from three, 2-2 from the line) to go with 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 foul in 18 minutes. He was a -23.

Reaves -- -- A bit of so-so games from Reaves. He struggled to score, missing some good looks from three. He did have a nice sequence where he blocked a drive on one end, then underhanded a pass to a trailing AD for a dunk. The Stats: He didn’t score on 0-4 shooting (0-3 from three) to go with 1 board, 2 assists, 1 block and no fouls in 23 minutes. He was a -16.

Ellington -- -- He missed some good looks, but hit one of his three. Nice swing pass to Melo for a corner three. But overall, no impact. We could have used a microwave scorer in this one. The Stats: He had 3 points on 1-4 shooting from three to go with 2 boards, 1 assist and no fouls in 10 minutes. He was a -1.

Bazemore -- -- In for the garbage time. Nothing to report. The Stats: He didn’t shoot or score and had 1 assist in 3 minutes. He was a -2.

Vogel -- -- Key Moment: There were a couple in this one. That first shift when AD sat, we saw a let down as the Sixers got some separation. In the third quarter, we cut the lead to 2, then settled for some long jumpers. And 3 minutes later, the lead was double digits again. We couldn’t stay attached after that.

Key Substitution: No replacing LeBron. So sliding Monk back in the starting lineup didn’t give the team enough scoring punch.

Key Stats: The Lakers scored just 39 points in the second half. Overall, they shot 6-29 from three (20.7%). The Sixers made 13-35 (37%).

Thanks DB.

When one guy comes back from an injury, someone else gets injured and goes out. That's how it's been for us, and it's a symptom of a cursed season.

I know it sounds like an excuse, but we just can't judge this team unless we get and stay healthy. Fact is, we have too much deadweight in the frontcourt (Ariza, DAJ, Melo, Baze) but we also have several legit non-star players who we need to keep moving forward (Stanley, Monk, Reaves, AB, maybe Dwight).

re: Malik Monk. I was a bit disappointed in him last night. It seem like he was just off last night. The usual silky smooth game of his wasn't on display. He might be better served as 6th man.

With MVP AD, we’d be the most imperfect ‘contenders’ but there’s hope

Thanks, DB.

At least AD is back, it seems. LBJ + AD can still be lethal. Let's hope they can stay on court together

AD 23 points
Rest of team 25 points

I think we did a poor job integrating him without LeBron. Some of the set plays worked well, but not enough of that. He looked strong last time he was starting.

And now that's it's come out that he's out for tonight I wonder if he was playing with a bit of an injury situation.

Ankywhoo, thanks DB
