We definitely need to keep this guy for the Play-In and the Playoffs (if we make it that far).
Ariza will always have a special place in the hearts of Lakers fans, but he cannot give us what Gabriel can give us at this stage of his career. I actually cannot believe he's still in the league considering he was on our championship team in 2009. The last of his teammates from that season (Pau) retired 1.5 years ago.
With dude starting & playing nearly 32mins tonight, it’s a good time to mention that as it stands we’re at the 15 man roster max and would need to waive a player to convert Gabriel to a standard rest-of-season (ROS) NBA deal.
If he remains on his current two-way deal and does not get converted to a ROS deal, he will be ineligible for the play-in & potentially the postseason.

Subject to a final agreement with the NBA, players have agreed to keep a majority of the current Two-Way rules for the 2021-22 season, sources tell ESPN. The one change is that a Two-Way player is not eligible for the 2022 playoffs unless his contract is converted.
Fyi: the NBA did change the rules last season to make two-way players eligible for postseason play due to the health obstacles the pandemic presented. That potential decision could still be in play. However, presently it is not. _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?

Given his D, this 24 yo kid should stick on longer inexpensive contract. Off
the bench he could help in the future. I mean he's a true 6'9" with a 7'1"
reach and a lot of energy.
He's a better option than; Ariza & Baze for sure.
We do need scorers but D is also very important. IF his O were to
come along, we'd be golden. _________________ Lakers need to build a freaking team !

looks like the power that be are waiting to see AD coming back, prob decide keeping a big (Wenyen) or a small, somebody bout to get cut the day before playin starts, brutal
We should have cut a player and signed him to a Stanley type (team option) deal. Then you'd get early bird rights on him, Stanley, and Reaves after next season. What's the delay? $$$?

They probably will, but also want to see if he will get minutes once AD is back. Once AD is back, it could come down to a situation where you have to choose who to play between Melo/Stanley/Gabriel, next to AD/Bron.

You are probably right which is crazy because for me its players that MIGHT play vs players that WONT play or matter.
Why not keep BOTH Stanley and Gabriel even if they don't work with AD over 1-2 of AB/DJA, Ellington, Baze and Trevor most likely sitting as DNP-CD?
He has long arms and moves his feet. This allows him to be a presence on offense off the ball and not allow the defense to just know they have to rotate out to a shooter (that isn't even a lethal shooter).
Other than Melo, no one on this team should be sitting outside on the 3 point line all the time. There needs to be movement and that's why it's been such a struggle this year, guys just don't move as much.
These guys like Stanley, Gabriel, Monk, Reaves, they at least move. That's why our offense seems to run better with them.
I have zero expectations from a group that unproven, but a healthy AD, Lebron and Westbrook playing better (like he has the last week) with those guys is certainly going to be more in line with the team we were hoping to have this season than the team we've actually been.
He's likely not starting on a contender of course, but he has usefulness on this team as a rotation player. Can swing between 3-5. Goes to show how badly Rob botched on the rest of the rotation with old vets who aren't even playing right now.
