I was always lukewarm on Anthony as a vet min signing. I'm pretty sure had we given his minutes to Melo, it would have cost us a playoff series. That's how bad Melo is defensively.

Glad we had Kuz when we did. He's not a great player by any means but as a role player you take Kuz any day as he plays with energy on other facets of the game aside from shooting the rock. Never felt Melo fit in on defense. Offense, yes.

Title teams have balance, Melo and Westbrook are 2 signings that really show how little vision Pelinka has for roster building. Or that he simply listens to Lebron way too much.

How many vet min would've been better than Melo? Markieff perhaps?

The Lakers need 8 or 9 guys that can be used to consistently win games. Melo shouldnโ€™t be one of them but at the 10th or higher slot for the vet min we should bring him back. Constant roster churn for players that donโ€™t play much more than the ones we have is detrimental to team chemistry.

Not only bring back Melo, but Dwight and Bradley as well, as long as they are slotted in that 10th thru 15th slot and only play against reserves during garbage time.

They would all be useful for team continuity and resting of the regular rotation players for load management. The old vets may not be able to get us a lead or maintain a slim lead but they can help a group of young players not squander a 20 point lead in the 4th to preserve the starters and rotational players. And they are likely to do just as well as anyone else for the vet min in a deep bench role. Additionally, since we are talking about 6 slots and only three players there is still enough room to add some young developmental players to the roster.

Yeah, not really comparable to Russ in the slightest imo considering Melo was a vet min signing.. Markieff had just came off one of the worst shooting stretches in NBA history to end the previous Season and is pretty mediocre on defense (better then Melo but still average at best) and i'm pretty sure he wanted to leave the Lakers? Melo was a solid signing it's just we had to rely on him WAY to much due to the rest of the roster being so poor.. We had two Max guys who are basically part time players at this point and another Max guy making 40 mill that's in heavy decline and was an abysmal fit for our roster.. That didn't leave much room for the role players especially considering Nunn who was our biggest signing didn't play a single game and THT who made the most after our 3 max guys didn't make the jump we had hoped for and was also put in a bad position due to awful roster construction.

Dwight is also a great signing for vet min as long as you don't over use him as we saw him have some great games when utilized correctly.. These guys are vet min players for a reason, they are older and can't play the entire season at starter minutes anymore but they're still far from worthless.

As the 12th guy on the roster? Most definitely!

Darvin Ham implementing the Milwaukee system, Carmelo could fill that Bobby Portis role.

Minus the rebounding, defense, and more athleticism due to age.

So you don't want him back?

The alternative would be someone like DJ Wilson.

I wouldn't mind Melo back. But his role must be dramatically scaled down. He's more of a 12-14 mpg player. He played too much and was toasted defensively as a result.

You should really read before your respond. I said I don't mind having him back, albeit in a lesser role. After watching him last year, and given the fact he will be 38 (compared to a 27 year old Portis), you think he should play the insane minutes he did last year? I don't. But I value his veteran presence on the team.

I want Melo back. I think he played hard and had the right mindset that can influence the other players. He might have a major flaw but every minimum player has one.

Get real. You want him to be our Jared Dudley. That's a waste of a roster spot.

There you go again discounting important players. Dudley was important to our 2020 team. Melo is actually able to contribute 12-14mpg unlike Dudley.

Try harder. I think having Melo in a Dudley role who can contribute in spot minutes is a good piece to have on this team. But no way he should play the same minutes/role as a 27 year old Bobby Portis. Get real.

Jared Dudley was a waste of a roster spot. He could have contributed just as much on the coaching staff.

No he wasn't. Lots of players thought he was important to that 2020 championship. But you only care box scores.

Melo will never score as many points as he takes away. Pass.

They won 7 out of 11 when he scored 20 or more points. Would like to see him play pf for about 14 minutes a night. Gotta give the young guys a chance. D12, Melo, Augustin, and Bradley would be nice vets to have on the team next year.
