Rasheed Wallace - probably the 2nd or 3rd best power forward that would have fit with Shaq and Kobe in the 2000s era of great power forwards. Only Kevin Garnett and Karl Malone would have fit better. Duncan? Not enough range offensively and mobility/explosiveness/athleticism somewhat compromised following injury in 2000. Webber? Not as good defensively although not bad either. Nowitzki? Defense and Kobe/Shaq would eat away his offense. Stoudemire? Ditto Nowitzki but low-key even worse defensively. McDyess? Close but not good enough

Back when he played he seemed to have some really nice games vs the Lakers.

Always a tough opponent:

WCF 2000 Lakers 4 x 3 Blazers
Finals 2004 Lakers 1 x 4 Pistons
Finals 2010 Lakers 4 x 3 Celtics

Yeah I’m really hoping it stays unofficial. What is his expertise exactly? We’re hoping he teaches one of our players how to do one of his moves and motivate him somehow? So, a coach to help with one or two aspects of one guy’s game?

How about some guys with comprehensive scheme ideas? Or someone who can teach an entire team one or more skills? Gonna rank someone teaching AD a maybe average efficiency iso shot outside our top 20 priorities.

Ham has not generated a lot of momentum with the initial excitement of his hire. Where is your staff?

Hard to hire an elite staff if you're not given the payroll. While they may have let Ham pick his staff (unlike Vogel) that doesn't mean they gave him the $$$ to get the best ones.

From what I understood, Scotty Brooks was pursued by the previous coaching staff as was Kendrick Perkins. The Lakers FO didn't offer enough $$$ for Brooks, and Perkins didn't agree (not sure the reason). If Westbrook was coached by Brooks/Perkins, last year would have been a little better, at least in the WB-coaching relationship regard.

Point is before we get on Ham, we have to understand what he's working with. People don't want to be assistants on low playoff level teams. That does not get you a head coaching job. What gets you a HC job is what Ham did with Bud, what Kidd did with Vogel, what Green did with Monty etc. You take a team into contention.

So not only is the $$$ likely not there, the upside of having a lead assistant role that is eventually going to lead to a HC gig, simply not there. Plus, Ham could want guys he trusts and doesn't think would want to take his job, eventually.

While I’m sure this is true regarding salary, you would still think they should be able to do better than this despite that limitation. A promotion, even if it’s not going to lead to the Laker job, should still be of some value. Sheed’s coaching resume is very unimpressive and Jent is a journeyman AC from mostly loser programs. We can reserve judgment until the staff is finalized but I don’t find the start encouraging.

Yes, he is in charge of technical fouls and ignoring the head coach.
