I have a friend who drives big rigs. He didn't read the clearance on a bridge. He got stuck under it. It happens more often than people think. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

It must because I've seen at least 3-4 of those in stupid drivers compilation vids (YT timekiller crap). And they were worse than that in most cases, meaning w/ cars having to scramble, more severely idiotic clearance differences based on height of truck and what was being hauled, etc. Problem is obvious. Yer doing 55 at min w/ cars behind you and it's difficult to estimate whether yer about to cram. Also have to assume given the frequency that the hauling companies didn't gauge all overhangs for clearance in dry runs or whatever. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

You would think drivers would plot routes and know what bridges they won't be able to go under. Key term, recommends.
Quote:
The federal government recommends that bridges on public roads have a clearance of at least 14 feet. This ensures that trucks shorter than the maximum truck height — 13 feet, 6 inches in most states — can pass underneath them safely.
6" is not a very large clearance difference. I don't how cost effective it would be to make it 1' _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
