Another Disappointing Finish vs. Sixers... It seems like there have been many last-second disappointments this season. The Lakers lost a tough one against Sixers previously. They did it again tonight.

The Lakers fell back in the second quarter off a 10-0 Sixer run, but when Bron and Russ returned to the court, the duo teamed up to retake the lead 58-57 at the half. Some great passes by Russ to LBJ during that stretch in addition to a couple of scores himself.

While the Lakers shot a poor 1-8 from three in the first half, they were getting to the rim with consistency and had a 42-22 advantage on points in the paint.

The Lakers trailed 86-83 heading into fourth after giving up a 7-0 Sixer run while LeBron sat late in the third. They’d take the lead back and trade hoops all quarter.

In the final minute, they got a big corner three from Brown and a stop with 14 seconds left. They didn’t call timeout, pushed it up court. Russ had an iso against Embiid. He fumbled it, backed it out, attacked, was held on the arm as he tried to power up and was smothered at the rim. Lakers lose 113-112.

LeBron -- -- He had 16 of the Lakers 32 first quarter points, mostly layups on drives or Russ finding him, but he hit a couple from the midrange, as well. Late in the first half, he and Russ would team up on the break a couple of times for Bron finishes (including a lob dunk) and LBJ would have 22 points at the half. I really like how LeBron is finishing this year. So much of it is after muscling his way through a crowd or tucking the ball in early on in the drive, then scooping layups in on the way down. He was a little cautious on probes when Embiid was lurking and LeBron forced some passes that weren’t there instead of looking to finish. In the fourth quarter, he had a couple plays where he worked his spin move in for a score. On one of them, he split a double, then spun around a third, but had to finish the spin in air as he already set his pivot foot. The degree of difficulty was a little hard, but that had the crowd buzzing. Early in the first half in this one, he scored his 38K point on an 18-footer. The team was a -20 when he was off the court tonight for 13 minutes. The Stats: He scored 35 points on 15-23 shooting (1-5 from three, 4-5 from the line) to go with 8 boards, 10 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 3 turnovers and 1 foul in 35 minutes. He was a +19.

Bryant -- -- Tough matchup for our bigs tonight. We left some ballhandlers open with our drop coverage trying to make sure Embiid didn’t get too many easy ones. Bryant also needed to make sure he avoided foul trouble, as well, since we are light on the big bodies against the Sixers. He did have a block of an Embiid jumper. He also stole a ball on the perimeter, gave it up and got it back to finish on the break. Offensively, he knocked down a couple of midrange jumpers. He had a putback jam where he came down awkwardly, landing on a foot, but kept playing. We can’t afford to lose him to injury that’s for sure. The Stats: He scored 10 points on 5-9 shooting to go with 3 boards, 1 block and 2 fouls in 20 minutes. He was a -10.

Schröder -- -- Rough start for Schröder as he wasn’t making anything. But he made some big plays late. He stepped into a three with 7:05 left in the game for his first field goal. Next time down he swished a pull-up from midrange. Later, he’d take a charge on Harden with some zone help of a teammate. He then made a big floater with 1:45 left to take a 1-point lead. Maxey got a big score on him late as Dennis tried to move laterally and was doing a good job, but Maxey just got around him to score just prior to the shotclock going off. That would have been a big stop. The Stats: He scored 8 points on 3-9 shooting (1-2 from three, 1-2 from the line) to go with 3 assists, 2 turnovers and 2 fouls in 31 minutes. He was a -5.

Toscano-Anderson -- -- He got the Harden assignment to start. Our defenders weren’t getting a lot of help on that and after screens Harden would find himself open quite a bit. Some good moments by JTA on iso, got a push off by Harden on one. He also drew a charge on Harris. He scored a few layups himself. One while slipping a screen to take a LeBron pass. Another after grabbing a long rebound and pushing it down court with speed to score easily over Harden. He’d also catch a bullet feed from LeBron and covert that under the hoop. The Stats: He scored 6 points on 3-3 shooting to go with 4 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 foul in 22 minutes. He was a -12.

Brown -- -- Defensively, a rough game. The Sixers looked to establish Harris against him early in the second half, going to the post or getting him to attack from the perimeter. After several scores, we’d put Russ on him and sit Brown. Then they went to a zone. Later, he had Harden blow past him for an easy layup and Ham called a timeout. He’d later get called on a reach foul on a three that we’d challenge to save three FTs (foul on the floor). He’d also fall asleep in the zone to give up a layup. On the good side, he did have a perimeter steal that he took the distance for a dunk. Offensively, he’d sink a couple of threes, including a huge one with 36 seconds left on a kickout to the right corner. Clutch shot that cut it to 1 point and gave the Lakers a chance to win on the final possession after we got a stop. The Stats: He scored 13 points on 5-11 shooting (2-6 from three, 1-1 from the line) to go with 4 boards, 1 steal, 1 block and 4 fouls in 37 minutes. He was a +4.

Westbrook -- -- Some superb passing in the first half as he was on a triple-double pace with 11 points, 7 boards and 6 assists. He sparked the Lakers late in the first half, hitting their only three, finding LeBron for a lob and a layup in transition (both great passes) and then drawing a couple of FTs on a jumper with a couple seconds left. He and LeBron have improved that chemistry a lot, especially on the deep two-man actions. He’d get a 20-point, 14-board, 11-assist triple-double. The last possession will be put under the microscope. “We got a stop, gave ourselves a chance to win, we just didn’t execute,” LeBron said after. We had an opportunity for a timeout on the last possession, but Russ had Embiid on him. He couldn’t get past him to finish well (Russ said Embiid grabbed his arm) and we lost at the buzzer. “I’ll take that scenario every day of the week and twice on Sunday,” Ham said after. Not a lot of fans trust Russ in those situations. Russ had his right arm held as he tried to power up on the gather and it resulted in what looked like a wild shot. Obviously, no call again for L.A. It is what it is. Russ played a great game tonight prior to that. His passing was setting the table for a variety of guys and these aren’t necessarily easy passes. He was threading some nice ones to teammates. The bigs did a nice job rolling and sealing men to make themselves available. Russ timed things well, also, waiting for guys to get rolling to the hoop after a strong pick or filling a lane behind him on the break. The Stats: He scored 20 points on 7-14 shooting (2-5 from three, 4-5 from the line) to go with 14 boards, 11 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 4 turnovers and 2 fouls in 34 minutes. He was a +3.

Gabriel -- -- Scrappy night from Gabriel able to score a number of times in the paint off passes (or battles to grab bad passes). Some foul trouble issues, but I’ll take the overall game from him. He did a good job making himself available on the two-man actions to score off of. I like how he’s giving some good solid picks out there. That ends up freeing himself up. But he also had plays where they just switched on him and he was able to use his body to seal and that resulted in scores, as well. After he missed a three on a kickout, he attacked a couple of closeouts and turned those into scores. The Stats: He scored 14 points on 7-11 shooting (0-1 from three) to go with 1 board, 2 blocks and 4 fouls in 26 minutes. He was a +4.

Christie -- -- His only score was a reverse layup on a drive and dish by Russ later in the game. He should have had another score at the rim, but tried to finesse it instead of going hard. Learning to play above the rim is always a challenge for a lot of rookies when they make the leap to the next level. Defensively, some good efforts out there. Occasionally, just better offensive players scoring despite that, but he did get some good challenges to force a miss or two. The Stats: He scored 2 points on 1-4 shooting (0-1 from three) to go with 2 boards and 2 fouls in 15 minutes. He was a -11.

Nunn -- -- We could have used one other person stepping up just a little more in this one. Dennis was MIA in the first three quarters. Nunn had a couple of scores at the rim. One a layup off a probe to his left. Another taking on a couple defenders in transition. The Stats: He scored 4 points on 2-3 shooting to go with 2 boards, 3 assists and 1 foul in 20 minutes. He was a +3.

Ham -- -- Key Moment: With 14 seconds left, we got the ball down 1. We let it play instead of calling a timeout. Russ iso’d and against Embiid and wasn’t close as his right arm was held as he tried to power up on the gather. No call. Ball game. Ham defended having the mismatch and attacking it. The other side of this is not having AD. If we had him, we’d also have a mismatch under the hoop with Embiid out on the perimeter and have another option to go to on this switch. Gabriel is not going to really give you that.

Key Substitution: The non-LeBron minutes are a challenge for us. The no LeBron, no Russ, even tougher. The Lakers were a +19 with LeBron on the floor tonight. Just got to have more guys stepping up.

Key Stats: Big stat was the -20 when LeBron sat. We've got to do better. Sixers were 7-21 from three in the first half, the Lakers 1-8. A fair bit of zone by the Lakers in that second quarter. Lakers had a 12-2 advantage on the break in the half. The Lakers would go 5-12 from three in the second half.

Coach’s Challenge: Down 2 with under 4 minutes left, we used our challenge on a Harden foul when he was shooting a three. He did the gather to trap Brown’s arm and was caught in the cookie jar. They changed the foul to on the floor versus three FTs. That wasn’t a successful challenge technically, but actually was. Sixers still hit a midrange jumper on that possession, so a point saved. With 1:05 left and the Lakers down 2, the Sixers challenged a ball that the refs called off Harden’s foot. Successful challenge, Philly ball.

Thanks DB. No timeout was a head scratcher twice over (allows for proper play call and getting offensive minded players in game since D is not needed).

The problem with Coach Ham is, this guy think's he's the homie, their friend, the big bro and quite frankly he's an a$$ kisser. He needs to actually coach, stop letting them play recess ball. He never makes adjustments, never calls timeout, never holds accountability on his players or even himself. I actually miss Vogel. He had the Balls to want to bench Westbrook and he didn't have anyones support because once again everyone is all about "hurting feelings" in todays soft a$$ society. Jeanie buss, Rambis, Pelinka, Lebron, they all are buddies and that is the problem. When Jerry West ran the show you think he gave 2 fu*ks about hurting someones feelings when he was making his roster. Don't you remember Phil Jackson yelling at Gasol on national TV when he was playing soft. A coach should put you in a position to succeed first and not be their buddy. We are having one too many losses that could've easily been W's if the team was properly coached.

So.. a bit on the topic of Coaches not being your friend. Manchester United were the Goats of England but started to fall off. They hired a new coach Erik Hag and he started to lay down the law and hold his players accountable. He would even bench and punish Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo ended up leaving because he is used to everyone kissing his arse and they actually got better without him. Most recently he benched their star Rashford because he was late to a meeting and now Rashford has scored in like 7 straight games?

Sorry for my long rant. Just a degenerate Laker fan who loses way too much money on his beloved team. Yesterday I took the spread though lol.

The NBA's Last Two Minute report calls this a correct non-call: "Embiid (PHI) slightly extends his arm before retracting it and marginal arm contact occurs with Westbrook (LAL) during the driving shot attempt."

i guess we are allowed to do that?

if this wasn't a foul, then that TB foul on Harden was even more marginal contact, why wasn't that being changed to a jump ball?

The same NBA that say this wasn't a foul allow Harden to play that travesty of basketball for years

What a joke
