Scotty Pippen Jr. Named G League Player Of The Week: December 19
Quote:
South Bay Lakers Two-Way guard Scotty Pippen Jr. was named NBA G League Player of the Week for games between Dec. 12 and Dec. 17. The son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, he posted 26.3 points, 4.7 assists, and 2.3 steals in leading South Bay to a 3-0 week and the No. 1 seed in the Showcase Cup Tournament.
It will take time but, IMO if Scottie keeps improving, he will have a nice NBA career despite his size.
He probably won't get much action with the Laker squad this season but any time at that level is beneficial.
The G-League experience and development will go a long way in his overall maturation.
Earning this award shows that he is motivated and dedicated to be the best that he can be, it's all part of the process.
if this guy played over russ, would the lakers be better or worse?
He has the skills to feast on weak competition, but it remains to be seen if he can compete at the NBA level. He needs to work on his shooting and a bunch of other things. Can't really see him getting any time with the Lakers this year.

I like Scottie but he's not on Westbrook's level. Right now SPJr is nowhere near ready for prime-time NBA competition. He has many flaws with defense being a major concern.
We're so guard heavy that he won't get many chances this year. But in time, he could develop into serviceable 2-3 string backup point guard somewhere in the NBA.

I hope he makes it. Nice story. But I don’t get too excited about g league numbers or awards, since a quick gander at the G league mvp list is pretty much full of non nba players. In the g league you look for nba clay with development needs. Guys with marginal physical talent for the nba but a lot of skill can tend to eat up the green real prospects in that league. But they have limited upside when faced with actual nba speed size and skill combined. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Taking place during 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City, UT, the NBA G League Next Up Game will feature some of the top talent from across the NBA G League.
For the first time in G League history, fans will have the chance to vote for their favorite G League players to participate in this All-Star Weekend competition.
The NBA G League Next Up Game will be held on Sunday, Feb. 19, at 3 p.m. ET at the Jon M. Huntsman Center and will air live on NBA TV.
People here complain about small guards, but Steph, Ja, Brunson... all seem to be doing fine.
It's small talent that is the bigger problem in my mind.
I agree with the part about people doubting him, because of his size. For a PG, his size isn't unsual, and shouldn't be a problem. SPJr. is listed as 6'1" to 6'2". Other guards of comparable size, along with the aforementioned names...?
Chris Paul
Mike Conley
Patty Mills
Kyle Lowry
Trae Young
etc etc...
Whether SPJr. makes it in the league will have nothing to do with his size. And, everything to do with his impact...or, lack thereof...on an NBA floor. Real talk, despite the Lakers really good scouting department, I doubted the SPJr. pick. He just real unsteady to me. But, he's been looking real nice of late. I'm really interested to see if he, and Cole, can add to the Lakers much needed young talent pool with Christie. _________________ ZOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ridiculous question. Russ, for all his faults, has shown he’s an nba player, an extraordinarily good one for a lot of his career. SPJr hasn’t shown he belongs in the league yet. Great that SP is doing well in the G League, but there’s a big difference compared to the nba.

#3. Scotty Pippen Jr. could be ready for a call-up
Scotty Pippen Jr. has a famous dad and a famous name but he’s carving out his own place with the South Bay Lakers. The 6-foot-3 guard is on a two-way contract with the Lakers but has seen most of his opportunities in the G League. Last Thursday, he put up 28 points and 10 assists in just 28 minutes, hitting 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. Two days later he put up 31 points in 32 minutes, to go along with 6 assists and just 1 turnover.
He’s just an average 3-point shooter but if injuries keep hitting the Lakers he could be ready to make an impact with his shot creation and point-of-attack defense.
FYI: Mac McClung is #1.
