What? I'm don't think he ever even got a vote for all-defense.

That doesnt mean he wasnt an allstar defender

Kobe won Mvp how many times? You can't tell me he wasn't the best player for about 10 years.

Kobe was all-NBA. Kobe was all-defense. Kobe was an actual all-star. Lonzo Ball had a line of shoes that didn't sell very well.

Zach Lowe:

Quote:
Hachimura is a big name, aglow with recent lottery pick sheen, but the league has seen his warts. He has missed a ton of games. The Lakers (or someone else) have to pay him now.

That said, the last five weeks have been the best of Hachimura's career. Over his last 15 games, Hachimura has averaged 15 points on 49% shooting. He has been more forceful and decisive.

Quote:
Hachimura has to improve his passing against good defenses. He's averaged 1.4 assists for his career. That's alarming, and appears to be a combination of will and vision. Hachimura is slow to see passes, and often makes them late -- without understanding how the defense will rotate:

Slow decision making seems to be the biggest issue… on both sides of the ball.

Defensively you can see he gets lost out there sometimes. Perhaps that’s a product of the coaching he received in Washington. If he can get more decisive on both ends of the floor, and learns to play within the system, then he can be a pretty good player.

The raw tools and size you can’t teach. He has a great head start there but he needs to be coached up. I think the fact that he made a mid range jump shot, along with a long three pointer, in his first game under the bright lights is a positive indication that playing in Los Angeles won’t be too big for him. Hopefully the coaching staff helps him improve in the other areas.

Right but Lonzo in terms of PG D is probably top 3. Super elite defender at the guard position. If he was healthy he would make multiple all nba D teams. Big if. But he’s more than a guy w a bad line of shoes. Also shoots 40% from three and had the Bulls looking like a top team in the league until he went down. They desperately miss him - I just don’t know if he will ever figure his injury situation out.

His skills are underrated, but he is injury prone.

I loved Lonzo, especially once he fixed his three ball, but so far he makes AD look like AC Green.

the ball brothers' fame will be short-lived, at least Melo will get paid. Lonzo got a nice contract, but Lonzo has some kind of mystery knee injury that is so bad he had trouble walking. Melo turns his ankle like 3-4 times a year...

Not sure why we always want to hype up guys so much.
We just need guys to be stars in their role.

I didn't mean to start a Lonzo Ball discussion in the middle of the Hachimura thread, but I should have known better. This is the second big side argument we've had in this thread. So I will just say that, while Lonzo was a good defender, I never thought he was elite. If he had stayed healthy, he might have become elite. Greg Oden might have won some MVPs, too.

Why do you seem to believe it is hype?

I am usually the most negative person regarding players but I am also not afraid to be positive when I see reasons to.

Washington messed up, they let go an allstar.

Are you projecting? Or are you saying he is one now?
I dont even want to argue about it, because I don't want to talk negative about him. But when we say he's Kawhi, that's hype.

He said the Lakers are the most popular team in his native Japan. I'm certain he wore number 8 because of Kobe. If true, I also believe him choosing #28 represents Gigi and Kobe, which makes me like him even more.

Thanks for posting Aeneas!

I think the Lakers have an excellent set of developmental coaches, and Lebron should be a good player for Rui to learn from. You pay for potential in this league, so it's true the Lakers will have to take a chance on Rji's next contract.

Interesting story about Pelinka and Rui’s draft year. It’s pretty clear this is a Pelinka trade.

DRAYMOND GREEN ON THE RUI HACHIMURA TRADE

At the 23:22 mark.

"The Lakers won the trade . . . any time you can get length and athleticism, it's always good . . . a midrange shot bodes well in the playoffs . . . " and then mocks many of the arguments raised on LG.

I thought about that too, but I think No.28 has more to do with the fact that he was born in the 2nd month (February) and on the 8th day= 28

The first character in his last name is the number 8

Hachi means 8.

https://translate.google.com/?hl=en&sl=ja&tl=en&text=%E5%85%AB&op=translate

That would be the most likely reason.

Hopefully his minutes start ramping up. He needs 32 mins a game. No way TBJ should be getting more minutes and starting over him. Ill cut ham slack on this since he just arrived, but he shouldve been in in OT and the end of the game
