PostPosted: Sun May 07, 2023 12:14 am    Post subject: Stephen Curry and his gross habit

I've been a Laker fan almost my whole life and have enjoyed seeing the Lakers on TV and in person since I was a pre-teen. Of course, I'm rooting for them again, we are in a tough series with the Warriors, but I think we can pull this one out and advance to the conference finals.

That said, I think the Warriors have been a great team, winning championships, playing a very fun to watch brand of basketball. Playing the Lakers, i want them to lose to us of course, but I don't hate them the way i do the Celtics or the Clippers.

Green is an idiot, boarding on being thuggish at times, but i still respect Him as a basketball player - though his best days are probably done.

Stephen Curry is an elite, all-time great player in the league. One of the greatest shot makers I have seen at any level.

But Curry is gross - this habit of always taking out his mouthpiece, chewing on it, then sometimes touching it with his fingers and later touching the basketball with the fingers he in essence spit on. Now I know Basketball is a contact game, guys are always making contact, sweating like crazy, it is a germ-fest. But playing with your mouthpiece, touching your hand, touching the basketball, its not the hygiene hall of fame out there.

I'm not a germaphobe; I work in the water industry deal with coliform and ecoli all the time. I even have to dip into wastewater systems and take samples of the poo-water. But I take sanitary precautions and disinfect myself often to avoid getting or spreading a disease.

But a great all-time player, and by all measure, a very good guy and great example of the way an athlete should conduct himself, I would like Him to stop playing with the mouthpiece, or ask the League to step in and have their be consequences; exit the game, wash your hands, call a time out, maybe even a technical, something to "clean up the game" a little. Also I'm sure lots of kids and players emulate his bad habit.

Really, its not much better than picking your nose in public.

Just gross.

He's disgusting and he's also thrown that thing around the Court numerous times when upset. Pretty sure he's thrown it at fans before. It's essentially biological terrorism.

Steph Curry is a terrorist.

Yeah, it's gross. I wonder if any players have thoughts about it but just haven't said anything about it.

What bothers me about it is every small kid, learning to dribble, shoot from distance, is out there sucking and chewing on his mouthpiece like a pacifier.

Curry's not the only player who chews on his mouthpiece. I've seen Bron do it.

Lebron does… Dlo does it and others do it. Kobe used to chew on his jersey. Did this really bother you that much?

Curry acknowledged in his interview with Kimmel that using the mouthguard is "a very unsanitary process," so he likely performs maintenance to keep it clean.

Yes it is, and my Laker loving sister gets so annoyed seeing him do it. I’ve been watching so long I really don’t pay much attention to it anymore. I’ve seen Bron do it too but not to the extent Steph does.

Absolutely gross, indeed. But truthfully, was there anything more disgusting than Sabonis and his mouthpiece? Whose would be nastier to wear?
