How do y'all feel about Zach Edey? Probably a reach for #17 and won't be there by our 2nd round pick but man the thought of a 7'4" dude with efficient offense next to AD sounds pretty nice.

I think it would be a real mistake for the Lakers to trade this pick.

If we are decent next year (and depending on what happens in free agency, no guarantees), maybe we slip more into the 20s with our 2024 pick and the Pelicans do not take that one and elect to take our 2025 pick (when LBJ/AD could be gone that year, yikes).

I see at least a dozen prospects at 17 that have a chance to jump into our rotation this season.

Adem Bona would be a nice athletic center project in the 3nd round

I love Adem. Really nice kid, and very approchable. I think he is a season away from realistically helping a contender. At 6-8, he may need a few more NBA skills.

+
Hedge and recovery
Motor
Weakside rim protection
Athleticism
Wingspan

Can stand improvement
Post moves
Defensive boards (improved over season)
Mid range
Outside shot
Freethrows
Ball handling

He already seems like a bigger, more athletic Gabriel. I think he has great potential to develop into an all star type player. He started playing basketball like 5 or 6 years ago so there is a big jump in his game coming in a year or 2.

If we keep the pick, Bilal Coulibaly is the (imo) the answer. That kid has star potential and a high floor as a role player.

On offense, Bilal reminds me of a young Eddie Jones. 6'6'' and can sky, strong finisher, a killer first step and those finger rolls

Zach Edey is projected to not even get drafted. He’s literally projected 72 on the big board. He will definitely be there by 47.

Leonard Miller is interesting. But I can see him as an OKC type of pick.

Could he be a Lamar Odom lite?

I remember Ramona saying on Mason and Ireland that she ran into Jerry West in the halls, and it wasn't part of her main point but she said he said something like "That Purdue kid looks pretty good"

Now I know Ramona didn't pull that line out of her ass and so I took the comment at face value even though it was part of another story she was telling and just used that as background as an example of how Jerry was.

IF Jerry West said the Purdue kid looks pretty good, then I'm taking a long hard look at him.

A lot of these prospects in the draft are not that good. I'm assuming there's a diamond in the rough, but from what I have seen, nothing that really jumps up at me.

Most these draftees lack the fundamentals of the game, and rely too heavily on athleticism.

In result, their game suffers, or they are just shooting, and their overall game lacks.

Bilal Coulibaly has potential. Great size and length, athletic, but raw as hell. Not NBA ready from his body to his game, would be a project, but he is only 18.

Grant Nelson seems to be good.

Has a good right hand touch, quick, athletic. Could really move for his size and shooting upside. Needs to improve offensive awareness, defensively, but does well at blocking shots. He could also create for himself, but limited.

He's been in college for 3 years, and although his numbers improved, he still lacks a left and going left. And I mean you cut off his right and he will really struggle. I see him being scouted and shut out on the elite level due to him not being able to go left and inability to use his left. He may show out in summer league though and the g league.

Lacks the body size and would have to get bigger.

Chris Livingston - good length and athleticism. NBA ready body, tough, defensive and rebounding upside, catch and shoot.

Struggles creating for his self, not that quick off the dribble, not that fundamental and needs better offensive awareness. He's better off the ball than on the ball. An undersized PF.

Maxwell Lewis is the best out of the bunch - great size and length, athletic. More of a 3, but could also play 2. Shooting potential, good fundamentals, creation for his self upside. Likes to back his man down and create out the post.

Needs to get stronger, work on his left, better on defense. He's really raw with with his moves, and needs to become a better a dribbler. There were times he was blatantly and noticeably carrying.

Everyone else just isn't that good enough to draft in my opinion, especially 5'10 Kihei Clark. I don't even know how he got an invite, but I guess dot your "i's" and cross your "t's."

7’1 Freshman Dereck Lively ( @DereckLively ) athleticism was very impressive at @KlutchSports pro day and he made 14 straight corner 3’s in front of 30 NBA Teams 😳 He also averaged 2.4 blocks in 20 minutes at Duke

I think a little lower. I'd trade 17/47 and see if we could get 21/22 from nets

I'd then draft this kid and wemby's teammate - Bilal Coulibaly

lol

https://twitter.com/deanondraft/status/1649118384724770844

Bilal Coulibaly spent half of the year playing in the terrible baby league in France, and other half being unproductive in the real league.

Internationals who haven't produced almost always fail in the NBA, yet teams keep talking themselves into taking them round 1.

Good touch, big body, very skilled in the post, keeps the ball high and uses his length. He has good offensive awareness, but very limited, slow footed, and I don't think he'll translate well defensively on the elite level.

He can only play down low, close to the basket. If he switched on a screen to the wing, he'll be toast. Also, he's 7'4 so he also may have an injury problem. I wouldn't take the risk, to be honest.

He's a traditional big. Sorta reminds me of Yao Ming, except Yao was way better because he moved better and quicker. I think Zach would have did well in the early 2000's and below.
