It is possible that the in season tournament is also just a way to get starters rest and more likely to be healthy thus big stars like LBJ AD Giannis are more likely to be healthy for the playoffs.
I assuming here that for the tournament teams will rest the starters and mainly play the bench. |

I hadn’t seen this part posted:
The NBA will release an 80-game schedule for all teams. The 8 finalists of group play will advance to the knock out round. The quarter finals and semifinals will count as regular season game 81 and 82. The losers of the quarter finals will play each other as regular season game 82. All teams who do not make the knock out round will be scheduled to play 2 additional games on December 6 and December 8 to fill their 82 game regular season commitment. The two teams advancing to the finals will play an 83rd game that will not count towards regular season record, nor will stats count towards regular season totals for individual players.
Teams are now guaranteed only 40 home games per season. Some teams may end up playing up to 42 home games, others will not, depending on how the 81st and 82nd game scheduling shakes out.

Why would you throw regular season games? |

Not sure why I should be more enthusiastic about games they were going to play anyways. Because the league says I should?
Why don’t we make up imaginary “ winners” the next long trade or player thread starts here on LG. The first poster to 100 posts wins and gets a special check next to their name. Hurray!
This just reeks of the League trying too hard to bring manufactured excitement to a long season. If the tournament brings you joy, No issues with it. I will be watching the games as I always do anyways.
But it is just another regular season game wrapped up in shiny colors. |

So I'm doing my Saturday morning house cleaning as usual and I have access Lakers on in the background and they just had a segment about this in-season tournament. Trudell is all excited about it because he's a soccer fan and apparently they have this in soccer and he said it's all about giving players the opportunity to "win something". And will it be as important as winning the championship, no, but it's an opportunity to "win something".
To me as a fan that's the problem is I don't need another tournament to dilute Winning the Chip. This is like - I'm Gen X so my generation did not do this - but this reminds me of how apparently they give out participation awards in kids sports. And it's like no these are extraordinarily well paid grown adults. They don't need a lollipop, if they don't win a championship they just don't win a championship _________________ #NiceWorkPelinka |

It will be about as valuable as the conference finals banner. Some obscure fanbase will brag about it, even if it means absolutely nothing in grand scheme of things. So the wikipedia entry shows that your team won the tournament, despite a first round exit. Big whoop. Embarrassing. I swear Silver is ruining the league one year at a time. _________________ Yi Jianlian Fanboy. Respect The Chair.
