I think Rui is in a good place mentally speaking. He missed a ton of games with the Wiz due to mental health issues.
Here's to the hope that with him being in a good place, with a new contract, that he feels stability and will live up to his 17m/year deal. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
The Lakers need to involve Rui in their offense more instead of just letting him stand at the 3-point line waiting for a kickout pass. They were guilty of that often in the regular season, but they improved in that area in the playoffs.
Still, great deal for Rui. Hopefully he improves his 3-point shooting, because that's still a somewhat weak area for us even after all these signings.
I feel like he could be one of those players who consistently steps up his game in the playoffs, a la James Worthy.
Rui can do a lot more if used in the correct way.
Get him more involved in the offense.

I think especially with the second unit they will run a lot of stuff to with his midrange game. _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions!

He’s starting.
I would be shocked…wouldn’t be the first time lol!…if the starting line up on opening day wasn’t AD/Rui/LBJ/AR/Dlo. There has been some speculation among fans on the internet about Hayes and Vand with Vinc thrown in too but I don’t forsee a scenario where Rui or Dlo isn’t starting along with AD, LBJ, and AR. _________________ “When it looks as if it is a realistic possibility, I want to focus on winning a ship like it’s a goal that can’t be denied. I haven't looked at that lineup's plus/minus together, but I'm fairly confident they were real good together. The addition of Vincent and maturation of Christie will be huge when Dlo has some inevitable defensive issues.
Starting Rui means no two-big front, and asking LeBron to spend more energy defending the perimeter. That’s fine to close, but would be too many minutes if it was also the starting plan, unless you adjust a lot of other things.
My money is on Vando or a second big. _________________ Charter Member:

I wouldn't be too mad if I were Rui and not starting. He should still get plenty of playing time. Only issue may be in his contract year and a starting spot could very well be open by then.

I wouldn’t be mad either, I think this core 7 gets most of the minutes next year regardless of who starts…AD/Rui/LBJ/Vand/AR/Vinc/Dlo…and perhaps it would work better splitting up the offensive fire power to combine with a better defensive presence. The rotation would have Vand/Dlo defense/offense starting together and then Rui/Vinc offense/defense together on the second unit.
The above makes sense, I just predict that it doesn’t start like like that…tho it may change during the course of the season.. and that Rui starts over Vand while Dlo starts over Vinc _________________ “When it looks as if it is a realistic possibility, I want to focus on winning a ship like it’s a goal that can’t be denied. According to the Laker Film Room podcast, Rui has slimmed down. Maybe they're looking to play him more alongside Bron/AD? I hope it doesn't diminish his post defense though; I think that will come in handy, allowing AD to roam more. _________________ Luxury Tax/FA Spreadsheet (Save to your Google Drive to edit)

Interesting, in the playoffs, the word from the coaching staff was they felt Rui was developing into a post defender. I guess they've perhaps concluded that it's best to put Rui on the perimeter.
I definitely rather see Rui at the 4/3 than at the 5 in most match ups. That's for sure.

We’ve seen LBJ transitioning from the 3/4 to the 4/5. As that continues, it looks more beneficial to the Lakers if Rui can be productive as the starting 3, and back up LBJ at the 4. We saw more of LBJ as the back up 5 last year than I expected and may see even more of it going forward with the majority of his time at the 4. If that plays out we’ll benefit more if Rui can play effectively as a 3, him slimming down could be an indication of moving toward that strategy. _________________ “When it looks as if it is a realistic possibility, I want to focus on winning a ship like it’s a goal that can’t be denied. Slimming down is fine unless it doesn’t speed up his feet. Because with his speed last season he was a post defender but was good defending on the perimeter. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

His speed is fine. It's about developing his fast twitch muscles. _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".
We’re molding him into both Karl Malone and Kawhi lol, is it crazy that I think he can get there _________________ “The main goal for the Lakers is to win a championship. All I care about, all we care about, is to raise another banner in the rafters.“
Saw him play Osaka in tennis. Has a decent flat forehand but horrible timing on volleys.
Not sure if the video is recent, but I definitely don't see any Kawhi/Malone comparisons physically.
However he fits in real well as a modern day forward/front court player. A little surprised the Wizards rather have paid Kuzma (almost double) than keep him. When you look at Kuz and Rui, you feel that Rui should/will be able to do everything Kuz did/does, with a better post/mid-range game.
Was looking at B/R top 100 NBA players…(sorry didn’t post link, just google it lol!)…and neither Rui not Dlo was included. We need the playoff Rui and the regular season Dlo, preferably the all star regular season.
I think the effectiveness of Rui will be a major factor for the success of the Lakers post season this year. LBJ is projected to be imo more of a PF/C so we need Rui to transfer his post season productivity to the SF position. I don’t expect 50% from 3 but if we can get +40% from 3pt range that would be great! _________________ “When it looks as if it is a realistic possibility, I want to focus on winning a ship like it’s a goal that can’t be denied. Both Rob and Darvin really gushing about his potential and the work he's put in. Looking forward to his season. _________________ It was reminiscent of one of those Most Interesting Man in the World advertisements: "I don't always shoot 6-for-28 from the field, but when I do, I become the youngest player in league history to score 28,000 career points."
