South Bay Lakers Name Dane Johnson as Head Coach

Quote:
Johnson spent the last six seasons on the South Bay coaching staff, including one season as associate head coach (2022-23), four seasons as an assistant coach (2017-20, 2021-22) and one year as a coaching assistant (2016-17). Additionally, the Columbus, Ohio, native has served as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers’ summer league team, including the 2017 squad that went on to win the championship in Las Vegas. Johnson first entered the coaching ranks by working at ‘The Hoop’ in Salem, Ore., a competitive youth basketball training facility.

Lakers sign Scottie Pippen Jr., Damien Baugh, Bryce Hamilton and Vincent Valerio-Bodon

All signed an exhibit 10 contracts basically for raining camp fodder. Most, if not all, will probably end up with the South Bay Lakers.

Lots of familiar faces except, new-comer to the Lakers, Valerio-Bodon, a 6’9″ forward. He played in the Hungarian NBIA in 2022-23. (8.2 Pts, 4.1 Rbs, 1.8 Asts, 41.2% 3Pt. Played 1 game for Celtics in the Summer League (13 Pts, 4-8 FG, 6 Rbs, 3 Asts, 1 Blk.

Highlights of Valerio-Bodon looks good. Good size, decent athleticism, can shoot three and mind range, moves well and coordinated, played PG before growth burst.

Need to add strength and improve handle.

At age 22, he has more upside than the college seniors of the same age. Could be a 3&D combo forward.
