Bro...3 (bleep) statues

That's the only right way to honor this man!

Still really hoping that one of them (the #24 one) is the Game 7 celebration v.s the Celtics with his arms stretched out, and confetti coming down on scorer's table.

This is why Kobe is so gravitating in the court. Every play could be a highlight due to his incredible skills and talent.

For those who think Kobe was (bleep) in the 7th game against Boston. This time using his Brain and determination. Stats don’t tell the story.

Just before the statue unveiling I received an email from Napoleon Hill reminding people that Michael Jackson appreciated Think and Grow Rich.. and in the email they mentioned that Michael Jackson turned Kobe onto Napoleon Hill and mentored him some etc

So I looked it up and yep.. *article is written from a MJ fan.. MJ didn't teach Kobe how to be Successful.. Kobe would have learned it no matter what

Quote:
Bryant was lifting weights at Gold's Gym in Venice, California during the summer following his rookie season, when his cellphone rang mid-squat.

"Hi, it's Michael," said the voice on the line.

"Michael who?"

"Michael Jackson."

The future NBA hall-of-famer couldn't believe his ears, according to a story retold by ESPN's Jackie MacMullan. It sounded nothing like the MJ he knew onstage -- the voice was lower, more subdued, and bereft of the high-pitched whisper Jackson famously used during his performances.

"He's calling me out of the f------ blue," he remembered. "I don't think it's a real phone call."

Bryant soon realized that Jackson had been observing his progress from afar and had called to offer advice.

"Keep doing what you're doing," Jackson urged him. "Don't come back to the pack and be normal for the sake of blending in with others. Don't dumb it down."

The telephonic exchange barely lasted fifteen minutes, but it was enough to spark an unusual friendship between the two phenoms.

Jackson, a superfan of the LA Lakers, proceeded to rattle off a series of factoids about the team, thereby prompting Bryant -- who was a fan of Michael's music -- to ask a few questions of his own.

"Who were your early influences? How did you make 'Thriller'? What prompted you to buy the catalog of the Beatles' music?" Kobe wanted to know everything about MJ.

Alright let's do better here, fam...

New story: The Kobe Bryant statue has a few errors etched into its marble base that have been identified and will be corrected in the near future, according to a team spokesperson

Now this makes me angry. How does a professional miss out on the basic details that's widely available online and in record books? Is that not one of the requirements of the job? They were literally commissioned hundreds of thousands, if not millions to get this right.

I completely agree, I am so frustrated that this is not 1 but 4 errors (if you count spelling decision wrong twice as 2 and I do)!!

Statue is sweet, love the concept of 2 more, but this is not reflective of the attention to detail Kob was known for.

Love and Miss the Mamba, hope it gets fixed quick!

This is pathetic. How expensive was the statue? The Lakers org didn't proof read it?

Would someone please help me understand why KB's parents would want to sell his first championship ring? Would they be that callous or just plain hard up for money?

Because cold hard cash has a use and a championship ring has none. Some huge Kobe fan with money will probably buy it.

There have been rumours in the past that both of Kobe's parents are gambling degenerates. It's a theory I truly believe in. If this is the case, they are always in need of money and was the main reason why Kobe cut them off financially. He never spoke about it publicly, but I know a couple of degens when I see them.

Just another way to make some quick cash.

This reminds me of the statue prank James Corden pulled on Beckham.

The LA Times is asking the same question that I have:

"What on earth would prompt Joe "Jellybean" Bryant to auction the 2000 NBA championship ring his son Kobe gifted him?"

Ring sold for 927k. Apparently it was a pretty hot item.
