I honestly wouldn't mind Juwan Howard b/c he's serviceable and also to keep him from going to Miami. In regards to Mbenga, I think he wants to go somewhere where he thinks he'll get more PT.

Bring back Mbenga. You can't get much better for the money he gets. He's been with us for 2 years and has familiarity with this team, has size, shooting, decent shot blocker.

Obviously it would have to be a vet minimum signee.

Juwan Howard: Can give you 20 to 25 minutes of quality play, which is important if Andrew goes down. Though undersized, he was very tough in the paint while playing center for Portland after Oden and Przbilla went down. Decent numbers earned against starters. Very skilled in the high post as a passer, has a nice jumper from the elbow. He can rest both Pau and Andrew, saving their legs and reducing their exposure to injury.

Kwame: Horrible work ethic, too many mental lapses but a decent big body defender. Think Andrew during the last games. He couldn't give us much of anything, but we still needed his minutes. If Andrew is hurt even worse next time, Kwame could give you those minutes, if not better.

Etan Thomas: Worth a look. Used to be a big body and physical defender. For some reason the size-challenged Thunder never really used him. I wonder if he got old early, or something happened after that leaky aorta surgery.

I like Juwan Howard as a backup since he has a mid-range game.

i like the idea of bringing in a new backup center, but after looking at the list of available bigs, mbenga might be the best bet of what we can get at his price tag. there are other tweeners like j.howard and k.thomas who may work well, but i think we'd be better off with some trees in the frontcourt with actual size.

i wouldnt be mad at a k.thomas signing though.

How about Aaron Grey, I remember a game he had last year when he completly shut out D.Howard. He could be a good backup in a defencive perspective

Big Z, Kurt Thomas, Mbenga.. any of those would do fine considering the role.

i saw that game as well and thought he'd be a good choice as a backup center... but found out he's always injured. but if healthy i'd give him a shot. he's big, and cheap. he really did do a number on dwight in the 4th quarter. he's also an la native from tarzana.

Let DJ go. We don't use him at all. Also, after all these years Bynum spent in the practice with Mbenga, there's nothing new that Bynum can learn from Mbenga.

Centers are worth premium in the NBA. We can only grab Vet center.

I suggest we grab:

Theo Ratliff

Why? Theo can still block, so he can block Drew in the practice. It will only help Drew to develop a better offensive strategy in order to avoid blocks.

Am I good or what???

Hello, I’m here from the future year 2024. I want to let you know that we
Will indeed get another center. That center will be Dwight Howard. Exciting, I know. I was on a cruise ship the first time I heard about it. That year will not result in a championship but Dwight will win a championship wearing purple and gold. The Lakers will see a tragedy. A tragedy that will rock our worlds and for sure will make every Laker fan cry. Rest assure a bubble champion starring that young kid Lebron and an even younger Anthony Davis will result in us hanging another banner. I can’t say any more, Marty is looking for his time machine. Lets go Lakers!!!

IMO we need another C if as it has been speculated that MBenga will not be resigned. Last year we had a period where both Pau and Bynum were out and MBenga had to start two games. I was really happy we went 2-0 with DJ getting a double double in one of the games.

Looking at our roster so far, if Pau and Bynum were to go out again, we would have to start Caracter or Lamar at C. Not gonna work against a lot of teams (Portland with Oden, Houston with Yao, Clips with Kaman, Dallas with Haywood, etc).

I would rather let DJ come back but if not we need to be looking at someone like Fabrico Oberto. Solid low post defender, good passer, good b-ball IQ. Does not need the ball and does not try and do too much on the offensive end.

Anyone have any other suggestions?
