Alcaraz and Sinner solidifying themselves as the two best. Fifth set Alcaraz went for it more, executed better, and Zverev couldn't pull himself together. Better player won. Djokovic and Nadal not playing Wimbledon in a few weeks so more opportunity for Sinner and Alcaraz to extend their hold on the top spots, get a lot of points. Would be disappointing if these two don't meet in the Wimbledon final.Zverev pretty atrocious at Wimbledon. No one else that consistently good either. And Alcaraz was pretty magnificent last year, and Sinner is a whole new player, and go to semis before his transformation into a great player anyway.
Who knows what Olympics will be like later in July?
The 5th set in that French Open final was incredible. Alcaraz gets to the most impossible balls. Even the points that Alcaraz lost, he brought the crowd to a standing ovation for him.
Alvarez is the marathon man. He has only lost ONE 5th set in his career. His record is 11-1 in 5 set matches.

This might be unpopular but I think Sinner is better than Alcaraz. He was clearly less fit (healthy) going into this event and I think he would have beaten him in the semifinal if both were 100%. I'm looking forward to seeing if I can be proven correct in the next few years. Or not correct, frankly, as long as they get to play each other a lot. It's a good battle when they play.

I really like them both. Look forward to whatever happens. I lean toward Alcaraz because of his artistry, imagination, and quick development. I noticed that he was actually serving pretty big at times now, in the 130s. He must have worked on it since last season because he did not have that. I think his second serve was a weakness last year, but I have not thought about that this season much (have no idea what the stats look like on that). If Alcaraz does develop a big serve, like Sinner has, I think the edge goes to him. Sinner and Alcaraz both keep working hard to improve so it will be interesting to see. Sinner definitely has more natural power, including his serve. His ability to cover the court at his height is a match for Alcaraz's speedster coverage. Looking at surfaces, they both should win on all four Slams' surfaces in their career. How lucky is it that we get these two right after the Big 3 are ending, because I think they are going to be better than the Connors Borg Mcenroe Agassi level, not yet sure about Sampras level but I think so all things considered. Whether they get to 20 slams (!!!???) like the big 3, still can't wrap my head around the fact that anyone did in the first place.
Would not be surprised if the other players were shut out of Slams for years just like the Big 3, Big 4 competitors were at Slams for years. The only think is there were 4 of them taking up semis most of the time, so if one was injured or got upset, still just a spot at most to go to a Tsonga or Berdych. Just fewer spots. Here, there are only 2 legends, so more of a possibility to sneak a Slam I suppose if Sinner and/or Alcaraz falter for whatever reason. Medvedev most likely since he's got the mental goods. Maybe I am underestimating him.
As an italian, i can't believe we finally have a guy at the top of the ATP rankings. I thought it would never happen in my lifetime, i'm still getting used to it.
Right now, tough, i would give the edge to Carlos - he's shown he can win grand slams without being 100% physically. I just hope both can avoid injury for as long as possibile.
Rafael Nadal will skip Wimbledon in July to prepare for the Olympic Games in Paris, which will be played on the clay courts at Roland Garros, the Spaniard posted on social media Thursday.

Zverev wasted another good chance.
(first post, and it's on the tennis topic...lol)
Welcome!
Curious, what brings an Italian to a Lakers message board, to make a first post on tennis, and specifically, an Italian player?

As a fellow Italian (although I'm just Italian-American, well, that's my main ingredient in my ethnic makeup), welcome! I've never been to the "motherland", ha, but I hope to take a trip there one day. The Euros are about to start. What's the appetite in Italy about the team, can they defend the title? In looking at the odds, it looks like Italy is only the 6th choice to win the tournament.

You definitely should, if you get the chance - it's not a 'perfect' country by any means, but as a travel destination there's a lot to like. We're especially friendly to visitors.

I would say we the first goal is to get out of the group stage; Spain is more talented, Croatia is always a tough opponent.
Our recent history has been enigmatic to say the least: we failed to qualify for 2 World Cups in a row (!), yet somehow we won Euro 2020.
Also, last summer our longtime manager all of a sudden resigned and took the Saudi Arabia HC job.

If i had to bet, i would go with France.
Yeah I just looked at the group, that's a tough group for sure.
Yes, it is interesting and insightful. I liked Roddick's short analysis for example immediately after the French men's final ended of Zverev Alcaraz shots. Look forward to watching this one.
Too bad Sinner and Alcaraz in same half, pretty sure we would have seen a great final. Still might of course if Djokovic is healthy. Like to see Osaka have a run and face a top player. Some injury concerns after Swiatek so this might be her first Wimbledon if things work out. Do not think last year's women's finalists will get there this year.

Alcaraz's drop shot is still a killer. He has great instinct on when to use it.
Alcaraz 7 7 6
Lajal 6 5 2
One of my favorite player Gael Monfils advanced.
Monfils 6 3 7 6
Mannarino 4 6 5 4
Naomi is ranked 113 Diane 53. Good comeback for Naomi
Osaka 6 1 6
Parry 1 6 4 _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

Sabalenka out of Wimbledon with a shoulder injury. She was one of the obvious favorites. Iga is not great on grass so it could be wide open.
Iga made qf last year and not too many players actually play well on it. I don't know where Rybakina is in draw but she's suffering physically herself. With a lot of confidence and natural progression of a talented player on grass, I expect Iga will go deep. Coco probably the big threat, but Iga owns Coco generally. Maybe Danielle Collins can do something this last time.
Actually, hoping Osaka can scare the s out of everyone and go deep.

Good to see the green grass, huh jodeke. Clay season is long.
Naomi can make a run, I hope.
I'm pulling for her. Has any woman won Wimbledon after having a child?
Joker's playing now after having surgery a month ago. He's moving well. How long he'll be able is unknown. He won the first set 6 1 over Kopriva.
Joker looking good. Kopriva wasn't much of a challenge
#2 Djokovic 6 6 6
#111 Kopriva 1 2 2
Rain delay at the moment. Joker playing under a roof.
I'm not going to see Coco play. She's on a 3:00am tomorrow morning _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

That's a shame Sinner and Berrettini will have to face each other so early.
Matteo seems to be somehow healthy and he moves well on grass (he just reached the final in Stuttgart)

Carlos stumbled out of the gate. When he got his footing he coasted to a win.
#3 Alcaraz 7 6 6
#48 Vukic 6 2 2
I only caught the last few points of Coco's match. Going by the scores she had an easy time. Coco has developed from an innocent 14 year old girl to a 20 year old woman.
#2 Gauff 6 6
