I am done with X / Twitter

Yesterday I deactivated my X / Twitter account. I have done this in the past off and on over the years but it has gotten worse since Musk bought the company. During the 2022 mid terms Musk tweeted (vote republican). Me being a democrat I was willing to still give it a chance until yesterday when my timeline started filling up with tweets from conservative republicans / MAGA. That was the last straw. Musk has turned the site into trash.

I am looking for an alternative site. I can't do Threads because I have no instagram account and don't want one. I signed up for Mastodon but the accounts I like are bots and not very active.

Any suggestions?

There are no good alts. I started a new account just to stay dialed in. The algorithms feed me lakers, design, California etc. I don’t post.

This is the only social media platform with which I participate. It is well moderated, and though I've disagreed with some of discipline and objections with the minority opinions herein, there really is no other place I've found that is informative, interesting, humorous, yet without the crazy (most of the time).

The key to x is to regulate your follow list carefully and never use the “for you” tab. I keep up on Ukraine and some political and news issues there. Still nothing like it for a curated up to date news feed.

It would be nice if people put more energy into something like threads. I've never used much social media outside of maybe reddit. It feels like the whole thing is woefully undermoderated and twitter has never been an exception. It just feels like a dumpster fire outside your bedroom window 24/7. The only thing you can do is move, especially with Musk running things. He's just been dumping tires into it

Twitter is only usable if you use a chrome/firefox addon. It removes all ads and suggested posts and only shows what you follow.

I've never had a Twitter or X account, don't have a InstaGram one either and barely on Facebook...

YouTube is still fun though...

I got off Twitter at the time that Musk was closing the deal to acquire the platform. I had already started to notice that I was being trolled by him and his egomaniacal posts. I can't stand the cults of personality.

There are just way too many bots on twitter. Elon has really set it up so that it is harder to track bots down with his whole removing visible likes thing. Why would he do that? Does he have some vested interest in having a lot of bots on his platform or something?
