Kawhi Leonard has withdrawn from Team USA less than three weeks before the start of the Paris Olympics.

USA Basketball announced Leonard's decision Wednesday, saying the LA Clippers star will spend the rest of the summer preparing for the 2024-25 NBA season.

"Kawhi has been ramping up for the Olympics over the past several weeks and had a few strong practices in Las Vegas," USA Basketball said in a statement. "He felt ready to compete. However, he respects that USA Basketball and the Clippers determined it's in his best interest to spend the remainder of the summer preparing for the upcoming season rather than participating in the Olympic Games in Paris."

This honestly makes more sense to me. I understand that he probably wants to have the Olympic experience and represent his country etc. etc. but dude Kawhi gotta stay on the floor for the Clippers seriously. Just one time, to quote the late great Bill Walton lol

Replace him with Brown or is Morant on the team?

it's Derrick White of the Celtics which makes sense because they need defensive guards against SGA/Murray

AD take the hint. Come home. Get ready for next season. You won gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Come home and get ready to win the Larry O'Brien next season.

it's like 20 mins per game for like 6 games, maybe 12 if you count exhaibition. it is nothing. just like workouts for players

Bron's not getting any younger. Mother Nature is undefeated. As a Lakers fan, I'm more interested in the Larry O'Brien trophy than individual achievements. Call me selfish.

Position I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Obviously I don't know what I'm talking about. I was surprised that Jaylen wasn't already on the team, he's American right?

But anyway I came here to say I just saw a video of players walking back to the bus after practice and AD was walking really stiff and looking hobbled. What is really going on? Lol. Has anyone else seen this video or heard about this? Someone give me some hope and perspective here.

And I agree with the sentiment of not having Bron and AD taking part in all this. Looking at it with P&G lenses it makes sense to preserve the health of an old man and a fragile man. But I reckon that beyond the honor of representing your country the appeal is the journey of it all....the memory that comes with being a part of something special...competing with the best of the best...and doing it with your peers....an experience that very well might lead to life-long friendships. I mean, it bred the banana boat crew and softened Kobe's hard ass. So, I get it. Who am I to not let them live the way they want to live -- even tho I would rather Bron and AD chill til the season starts.

I agree. My thought is they've both won gold so that part of the journey is complete. The Olympics are classic. I understand why both want to play. I hope they're playing doesn't affect the run to the Larry O'Brien.

It seems like to me that the FO isn’t committed to going all in for a ship run with AD/LBJ. A lot of posters have shared their opinion that they think the window is closed and a rebuild is the best next move. It makes me wonder if the FO is holding back because they too agree with those posters that don’t think resources should be used to go after a ship thinking AD/LBJ are no longer good enough. I didn’t want AD/LBJ initially to play for team USA
so that their health could be preserved but given the moves and lack of moves by the FO last off season, the trade deadline, and so far this off season, I’m glad they are playing and stood out as among the best of the best to showcase that a ship run could still be possible, to the FO and the fans that appear to think otherwise.
_________________
When reasonably possible, I expect the Lakers to go after a ship like it can’t be denied. I haven’t seen a completely committed effort by the GM for the last 2 off seasons nor the last 2 trade deadlines. What is going on?

if they were about winning a chip JJ wouldnt be our coach. The FRPs would have been used. they still may be but JJ wouldnt be our coach. Pelinka was clear that player development was the direction. he has 3-4 moldable guys.

Even worse, the guy who developed the RICE protocol (rest, ice, compression and elevation) Dr Gabe Mirkin ended up turning around in 2015 and stated ice and rest can be actually detrimental to recovery from exercise and injury. But of course, we assume orgs hire the most on top of the science professionals for these athletes and you find they become like most medical professionals: lazy and regurgitating what they were taught originally without checking up on the latest and greatest. Let's hope that doesn't affect AD this year (who knows, not having a traditional break might actually help him)

hopefully. The whine from some after bubble title was the quick turnaround the following year.

Jokic manhandling France twin towers...

Serbia looks like a legit team... Embiid and AD better be ready. But their wings can shoot and guards are pretty quick.

Come home and get ready to win the Larry O'Brien next season.

players should take pride on playing for their country and i am glad Lebron gathered the stars and AD is part of it.
it's like 20 mins per game for like 6 games, maybe 12 if you count exhaibition. it is nothing. just like workouts for players

Bron's not getting any younger. Mother Nature is undefeated. As a Lakers fan, I'm more interested in the Larry O'Brien trophy than individual achievements. Call me selfish.

I didn’t want AD/LBJ initially to play for team USA
so that their health could be preserved but given the moves and lack of moves by the FO last off season, the trade deadline, and so far this off season, I’m glad they are playing and stood out as among the best of the best to showcase that a ship run could still be possible, to the FO and the fans that appear to think otherwise.

if they were about winning a chip JJ wouldnt be our coach. The FRPs would have been used. they still may be but JJ wouldnt be our coach. Pelinka was clear that player development was the direction. he has 3-4 moldable guys.

maybe hayes

everyone else is who they are.

That’s what it has looked like to me too! The FO does not really seem committed to a ship, says as much it in my sig. I think something broke inside of Rob/Jeanie after the Westbrook debacle. They’ve said faulk it to just go after a farewell tour which is why I’m glad…against my initial desire…that AD/LBJ are on the USA team to show the fans ams the world that the Lakers FO is full of shiet for thinking the window has closed. The preference is that it motivates them to do something but not gonna lie, I also want the “rebuild because we don’t stand a chance” crowd to stfu.

When reasonably possible, I expect the Lakers to go after a ship like it can’t be denied. I haven’t seen a completely committed effort by the GM for the last 2 off seasons nor the last 2 trade deadlines. What is going on?

I think it’s the journey that gets them to want to go. I also think it’s the collective iq. After the dumbness of Ham, the dumbness of Dlo, the dumbness of Russ, the dumbness of a bunch of role guys and decisions playing with top talent and most of all top minds has an appeal to it. It’s nice to talk ball with people who know it and see it like you on film if you’re them.

Kerr starts Embiid but AD is truly the no. 1 big for this team.
