They just fired Gregg Berhalter today.

I think it was the right move after watching Copa 2024 where they completely underachieved and didn't even make the knock out round despite being at home and getting a gift draw.

The worst was the Panama game, but honestly they didn't look great after the 1st half of the first game against arguably the worst team in the tournament.

I am hoping they get Jurgen Klopp to take over.

What do you all think about the decision to move on from Berhalter and who would you like to see come in? Our team might have the most talent we have ever had but something is off when it comes to results on the field.

I never understood why he was hired in the first place.

I'm with Steve007. Berhalter has always been a substandard coach and what's worse, the players (other than Reyna) loved him, so there was no accountability. The players were essentially fat and happy and some of our best players only know him as the national team coach. We need to really swing for the fences here. Klopp would certainly be an ideal hire, and he's even leaving Liverpool at the end of the season in the EPL. Make the call to Carlo Ancelotti if you can't get Klopp. Zidane hasn't managed since 2021; this would be an interesting hire and opportunity for him. Sell it as a 2-year commitment for a great salary and where you get a home World Cup, so no need to worry about qualifying. In other words, it's not nearly a "grueling" cycle. Just get the team ready.

A coaching change isn't going to change the outcome of the USMNT. Its structural.

Man....this brings me back to the 1994 World Cup. The Legendary Ponytail Roberto Baggio, Best Player in the World Romario, 17 year old El Phenomeno Ronaldo, the penalty shootout between Brazil and Italy, Wynalda, Harkes, Lalas, Meola and Cobi Jones USA beating tournament favorites Columbia that had destroyed Argentina 5-0 in Buenos Aires during qualifying, Hristo Stroichov of Bulgaria, Gheorge Hagi and Romania, Korea coming back from 2-0 to tie Spain in the last 10 minutes and trailing 3-0 to defending champions Germany to make it 3-2 and repeatedly peppering the Germans in the last 10 minutes to score that one goal that would qualify them for round of 16 in the blistering heat in Dallas - had family members attend this game and yes this was when Jurgen Klinsmann the blonde bomber was still a monster and scored a brace this game with help from some terrible Korean goalkeeping.

Columbia is showing USMNT what a REAL contender looks like. Its cute that the USMNT actually thought they could get results in this tournament. Columbia would have thrashed the US again

Apparently Copa America was beset by problems highlighted by the failure to control crowds in the Final at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium.

Can we just merge this thread to include the USWNT as well? Their 2 matches this week in preparation for the Olympics do not inspire much confidence. At all. A 1-0 win against Mexico and a scoreless draw against Costa Rica? Yikes. I saw the entire second half of the Costa Rica game last night and despite having pretty much all of the ball, the lack of creativity in getting Grade A chances and the lack of a finishing quality was glaring. Pretty much what we've seen for the last 4 years, frankly, since the last Olympics. Mexico and Costa Rica are not even contenders. And we were playing our best players. I know that Emma Hayes was considered a top-of-the-line hire, and I'm certainly not going to blame her at this point in time. But yeah, we don't really look any different.

The Men's Team dropped from 11th to 16th in the World Rankings after the Copa 2024 debacle.

Mexico one spot behind at 17th as they also laid an egg at Copa 2024.
